How does it attach? Can it be attached to a bassinet?

Thank you for your question! Based on how our musical mobiles are designed, we do not recommend attaching this product to a bassinet. Our mobiles are manufactured to attach to a crib's railing by fitting the base mount onto the rail and using a bolt and clamp to fasten. Therefore, the open spaces from a crib's railing are needed to fit the bolt and clamp. We apologize for the inconvenience!
