Hold the tip of your dog's ear and gently pull it up toward the sky while administering the drops to ensure that they enter the ear canal. Don't be afraid to keep using solution until you can see the liquid filling up your dogs ear. Try to prevent your dog from shaking its head (heh, good luck). Once the ear is full, gently massage the bottom base of the ear-- if you're doing it right you should be able to hear a subtle sloshing sound. This ensures that the solution is getting deep down in there where it is needed (check out a youtube vid if you are better with visual tutorials). Let me tell you, the gunk that came out of his ear on that first cleaning... the horror! Flies literally started trying to land on his ear and on the cotton swabs that I was using to help clean it out! I can't believe it had gotten so bad without me noticing, but that night there was no more scratching and even his general mood had improved. I'm on day 7 of the allowable 14 day treatment and his ear is no longer drooping. The wretched smell was gone after the first night. I am still getting small amounts of wax from out his ear, but less each day. Shake the bottle, open the lid and pour drops directly into the animals ear canal. You just need a few drops every day for a week or two. My cat's ears cleared within about 5 days. **Q: How is this compared to the Zymox otic hc in the red bottle for ear infections?** A: The red text version of this product has double the hydrocortisone, so ultra strength itch and ache relief essentially. I personally use the .5% because it works so well I haven’t found the need to spend the extra. We use a lot of this as my pup has a lot of allergies and frequently gets ear infections. **Q: Is this an authroized dealer?** A: I don't know the definition of an "authorized dealer". I do know that I use this on my poodle's ears after he is groomed. That has prevented ear infections that usually come after grooming. I don't wipe it out of his ears (like they recommend). I just squirt a healthy amount into his ear canal and the red areas in front on the canal. It works ! I love this product. **Q: is the 0.5 or 1% better?** A: I read cats are a little more sensitive to hydrocortisone so I use the .5 solution but I've used both and they seem to be just as effective in soothing the ears. We’ve spent lots of money at the vets including many prescriptions. Some have done an ok job, but nothing ever cleared the issues. I bought this product with low expectations. What could possible work better than high cost vet approved prescriptions? I am happy to report that this product has exceeded my expectations! From just a few hours after the first treatment Champ was not scratching, Digging which included a lot of whining and some bleeding. I thought “OK, it’s the Lidocaine numbing effect. let’s see how the next few days go”.
