I have not noticed a difference in function between the two types. As long as the feeder holes have not enlarged there may not be a problem. The no prong ones are easier to clean since there’s not need to run a feeder brush between the prongs. **Q: If the feeder is filled only halfway can the Hummingbirds still reach the nectar?** A: There is a mark on the bowl of the feeder of where you should fill the nectar to. Hummingbirds have long tongues, i also use the bee guards that cover the holes from the underside. You should change the nectar every 3 days when its hot out! **Q: Can the bees and wasps get to the nectar?** A: They can. My recommendation is you don't fill the feeder full to the top, maybe up to 1/2 inch space between the bowl and the lid. In addition, I buy ant moats, fill with water, hang feeder on it, keeps bugs and ants out of your feeder plus bees will go to moat and drown in the water since most of the time they are just in need of water. Hope this helps. I no longer have bees or wasps coming and bugs stay away too. You have to keep the aunt moat filled with water, check daily for refill.
