I know I chose the TL902 because it was the new version of the TL901 and had good reviews. I believe you can cold laminate by merely selecting the lower heat setting for 3mm thicknesses and run the pouch through before it heats up. I don't recall if the rollers turn before you select a heat setting or not. This would work for one or two cold laminations before it heated up. I don't know what heat does to a cold lamination pouch. Guess you could find out. **Q: Are the 20 included pouches 3mm or 5mm thick?** A: They are 3mm. NOT 5mm. **Q: Can you use one laminating sheet instead of a pouch in this machine?** A: Scotch Brand Thermal Laminators are designed to be used with Scotch Brand Thermal Laminating pouches.
