16 yr old rap fan/composer is enjoying this birthday present
Bought as a gift with songwriters rhyming dictionary. I don’t know anything about the genre but the 16 yr old recipient says he is enjoying it. Easy to read just little sections at a time. He has also been introduced to artists he didn’t know so he is increasing his knowledge as he looks them up and listens to their work.

Bought a gift
bought as a gift and my nephew loved it. He is just getting into music and wants to try to write his own bars. He is not normally a big reader, but loves this book.

NOT a book on the craft of rapping - just a book full of rappers' opinions on stuff
This book was not about the craft of rapping as it was made out to be. It does not provide you with an analysis of many raps and rapping styles and methods. It doesn't give you any tools. It just gives you opinions. and tons of em. and about general stuff. For example, there are a couple of pages dedicated to rappers talking about where they like to write. There are a couple of pages dedicated to rappers' opinions on how to play an entertaining gig. There a couple of pages dedicated to rappers' opinions on whether you should bother memorising your rap. There are a couple of pages dedicated to rappers's opinions on how to choose your single. There are a couple of pages dedicated to rapper's opinions on collaboration.Basically, this book is nothing more than a bunch of opinions from a bunch of rappers on the personal artistry side of rapping. The side of rapping which should never be taught or attempted to learn. I'm an artist because of who I am. I make decisions about the the way I make my art because of reasons that I don't question or compare to others. They are what make me a unique artist. The way I make art will not and should not be affected by the way others choose to make their art. This book is just people talking about their artistry. Find the artist in yourself, you don't need a book on other people's artistry to do that. I wanted to study the actual craft of rapping, not hear people's sentiments behind it. If you don't have the sentiments to record your own material, don't even bother trying to become a rapper or artist. If I want to know more about the history of a particular song or the way one of my favourite artists writes out of pure curiosity, I'll look that song or artist up - reading a book full of the opinions of artists I don't care about is not interesting or useful to me in the least and most importantly, it is not what I bought this book for. There may be people who want to read this type of stuff for inspiration purposes, which is all good. However, I have given this 1 star out of 5 because the book's title of 'How to Rap' is EXTREMELY misleading, to the extent that I feel like I have been tricked into buying this. Please sort out the description. Unfortunately it is too late to do anything about the most misleading thing of all of this book - its title 'How To Rap'.
