A true treasure.
This is a great book about places and the people who lived there. I have driven past these small settlements all of my life. It is a treasure to know more about them.

Highly recommend. Very interesting, entertaining and informative.
Simply put, I loved this book. Having lived in New Mexico and having explored its backroads, this book brings back so many good memories and gives context to many of the lonely, beautiful places I visited. I loved the way Mulhouse coupled his stunning photography with just enough history to give context without overwhelming the reader. His subtle humor adds a lot as well. Another thing I liked is that he offers explorations in parts of the state that are seldom discussed but have such rich histories and interesting stories to share. I highly recommend this book.

great book
In the chapter that talks about Ojo Del Padre, it says Ojo Del Padre means spirt of the father however ojo means eye in spanish it also states it was abandon in 1958 however I Was There In 1962 and it still had many people living there and the town was in good condition and the houses were occupied

Love the short histories. Also, my grandparents home is in the book.
Of course the show stopper was seeing my grandparents old house where i used to play as a kid. The "Harrison house" in Encino. My dad worked at the old 66 station and Encino Motel. The stories about other NM towns are really interesting as well.

Fascinating and well-researched.
Many of us find that ghost towns, especially in the American West, hold an allure. This book, by the writer of the City of Dust blog, brings in-depth detail about the past and present of many of these places, all across the state of New Mexico. It also features photos that capture the look and feel of these ghost towns. For those who have been interested in the forgotten places of New Mexico's past, this offers a welcome update to older texts. For those just beginning to learn about the relics of the past hiding on back roads, this is a great place to start.
