Got this on a Prime Deal that was $100.00 off current price plus $100 rebate from MSI so it is indeed a bargain for what it offers. I rated it poorly for touch screen as it has none. I rated it 4 for screen quality as it at times could be "crisper" on photos and videos...but it IS still very good picture quality. I rated it overall 4 star mostly because the sound "quality" is of no quality at all! In fact it is dreadful. However, pairing my JBL Flip 5 speaker with it overcomes any sound quality issues. Don't know that I would have purchased this if not for the discount and rebate. But I am certainly glad I caught that deal while it was in existence! Thank you Amazon Prime!

Just pass 30 days return window, the laptop starts to generate loud coil whine. Contact customer support, we need to pay shipping to send the defect product to RMA center. MSI sold you defect and you need to pay shipping to get your defect item fixed, what a deal! Will never touch any MSI products in the rest of my whole life. This is really frustrating.

It's been 1.5 years since I first unboxed and used this laptop. The warranty is 1 year. While charging, since about 2 months ago, I'd sometimes hear a faint buzzing noise from the charging port. Mind you, I use official MSI charger. Then, at some point, using the laptop while plugged in would cause micro stutter once every several minutes on light multitasking such as alt-tabbing browser to Ms. Word or Ms. Excel. The only time I can recommend this laptop is if you see a deal for around $500, and you will not be using it to game. Because, I can only imagine the pain of trying to game on this thing with those micro stutters (even non-demanding games). I can say that, when on battery, everything is smooth. Update: beware! Soon after that review, my laptop WiFi card stopped working. I have tried restarting and reinstalling the Wireless Drivers. None of it worked. I had to open the laptop myself and replaced the WiFi card from one I purchased off of Amazon. About a month later, it broke again. I suspect it is affected by the electric arching noise (maybe some electrical fault) I described above. It got worse. When unplugged, occasionally, I can hear the arching. AVOID THIS AT ALL COST! It's not worth the hassle of being out of WiFi. Find another alternative and save yourself massive headache down the road. Update again: the left hinge breaks. There is a Reddit thread from around 2 yrs ago that had the photo. The photo looked exactly like my issue right now.

I wanted an affordable student laptop that could occasionally play games such as League on minimal graphics and run small mapping projects in QGIS, efficiently. This laptop can do these things, but there are a few caveats. I ran into several different issues resulting in two different RMA warranty repairs within my 1-year warranty window. Within the first 4 months, the hinges came loose and were falling apart on one side. The most significant issue with this laptop is that the cooling fan continues to run when the laptop is in sleep mode and will not shut off until an unknown target temperature is reached. Unfortunately, inside my carry bag, the cooling fan generates more heat than it can dissipate, so if you can't wait for the fan to cool it before putting it away (which could take more than an hour), the laptop will reach nuclear temperatures inside your bag and the fan will continue spinning until the battery runs completely dead. Repeat this process many times, and after just a few months the battery is so worn out that it barely lasts more than an hour just running word processing. During sleep mode, the fan cannot be disabled because it's designed to keep as many things running as possible for a faster wake-up time; in other words, "this is a feature, not a bug." My workaround has been to never use sleep mode but always use the slightly-outdated Hibernate mode instead. I figured this out just before my warranty expired and was able to get the battery replaced. Since then, I occasionally get some scary BSODs saying that I'll have to use hard drive recovery tools, but then the laptop reboots and is fine. I probably need to do another windows reset, but I just haven't had time yet. Tl;dr: This laptop has too many issues, but is at least functional for now anyway. I wish I had spent a little more money on something more reliable. The rebate took a couple months to be processed, but it did eventually come through.
