## Description

Product Description Lumie Bodyclock wakes you gradually with light that mimics a real sunrise. The brightening light is a signal for your body to reduce the production of sleep hormones such as melatonin, whilst increasing the levels of hormones like cortisol that help you get up and go and so you're brought naturally round from sleep. This provides a fantastic start to the day for sufferers of SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and the winter blues, and helps anyone who is not naturally a morning person to feel brighter and more energetic first thing. Lumie Bodyclock are available with a range of extra features to help you wake brighter and sleep well. From Lumie, Light therapy specialists and inventors of the very first wake-up lights. Review: I understand this is the only sunrise clock that has a DAB Radio so if that's what you're looking for, then this is for you. I'm pleased to report it is quite high quality and although it's expensive I think its worth it if you can get a deal - full price probably isn't worth it, especially considering a separate DAB radio and sunrise clock is a quarter of the price for both. I've seen people say the interface is confusing - I didn't find this myself with the operation of the buttons and knobs being fairly self explanatory with helpful icons and such on the display. There aren't that many functions to set up and once it's set up, it looks after itself from then on. The clock has two downsides - one is that it doesn't get the time and day from DAB and requiring you to set it up manually. This is ridiculous as I have £20 DAB Radios that do this. But once set up it's fine. The other downside is that the display, while decently viewable and dims right down at night to not give you glare while still letting you check the time in a pitch black room, is quite small and low quality and doesn't feel as premium as it should for a device of this price point. Other sunrise clocks a quarter of the price have large, attractive, decorative digital clock displays - this is far more utilitarian. The radio functionality is excellent and while it did need the telescopic aerial partially extended to get full reception in my location, once I did that I could pick up every station that my other good DAB radio can pick up - my old DAB alarm radio could only pick up the strongest stations. Sound quality is great from something so small and much better than a generic cheap DAB alarm radio. It tunes into stations quickly and you can preset them on the five front buttons for instant access which I like. No programme/track info is displayed which is a shame. The sunrise alarm looks great and has a configurable duration up to 90 mins, with optional alarm sounds or it can tune to a radio station, which is what I wanted. You can set a different alarm for each day of the week which is convenient, and unlike some clocks in this genre, you don't have to remember to "arm" the alarm every night - it'll come on automatically. The light has a really convincing sunrise effect which goes from a super dim super warm light (which can be used as a nightlight) to a super bright sunlight which is designed to wake you up naturally. The light can also be used at any brightness for reading, etc. It also has a sunset feature which is the opposite - you turn the light to the desired level and press the sunset button and it'll either play a predetermined sound such as rainfall, birds etc or you can choose a radio station, then slowly decrease the light and sound (optionally you can keep the sound on) over a set period of time. I like BBC Radio3Unwind for this purpose as they play calming classical music and the Sleeping Forecast at night. I only wish the Sunset feature had an option to automatically tune to a radio station like sunrise does - you currently have to select it manually.
Review: I love this alarm clock with the sound and light features for waking. I also like the different modes such as sunset and sunrise to help to regulate your sleep pattern. The sound feature has a lot of different modes such as DAB, pre set sounds and USB. There are loads to choose from to help wake you up in the morning. There is also options to listen to sounds to fall asleep to too. Great sound, great light and a very high quality item.

This is a very good device with few disappointments. The first impression on unboxing the device was one of quality, with the dominant materials being glass for the generously-sized lamp, and cloth covering the lower part of the device where the loudspeakers are. It comes with a power lead which tucks away neatly underneath and a telescopic aerial. Given the necessary complexity of the device, setup is not a five-minute job.. Having said that, though, the user interface is quite easy to use and the instructions are fairly clear, with only a certain amount of assumpion (that users will instinctively know what they are doing) on the part of the author. The device is fully customisable - different alarm times for each day of the week, sound effects (30 of them!) together with volume, brightness and a wide choice of times for how long 'sunrises' and 'sunsets' can be made to last. Setup is performed via a series of menus. The push and rotary controls, together with the radio presets, have a quality feel to them. Time is a manual set-up affair and it doesn't set up automatically from the radio as some sets do. Before I go any further, as everyone will be buying this for the lamp with the 'sunrise' alarm facility, I'll talk about that for a bit. First of all, it's beautiful. The duration of the 'sunrise' and 'sunset', which goes through a temperature gradient from red to white light, can be set to a number of options between 15 and 90 minutes. They can be made to function with or without sound effects or other audio. The light can be turned up bright enough to be used for reading, and there is a choice of two light temperatures so as to ensure an absence of blue light at night. This is of course one of a limited number of these alarms which incorporates a radio. I opted for the sole DAB model in the range because of the better reception and the absence of risk of obsolescence that this offers. The sound quality is good - up to the standard of a good portable radio, but not excellent. There just isn't the space for the acoustics of the case to be really good. A disappointing omission is that the monochrome display is rather small and doesn't display the details (track name, composer etc) of what is playing, which might be a useful feature for some listeners. The display has the advantage that it dims right down at night, and so is not at all distracting. The device has a variety of other audio options, apart from the sound effects which are too numerous to go into here. It has a Bluetooth-in, allowing it to act as a speaker for another device such as a mobile phone. I was able to get it to work perfectly with my iPhone, but my Acer chromebook defeated it - it would not stay paired. A problem with protocols no doubt. I can live with this. There is also a USB in, which worked when I tried a USB stick in it, but it doesn't support multiple levels of folders.. Usefully, it allows tracks to be picked from a list which shows on the display when USB playback is selected. There is also an 'Aux-In' which works from the headphone socket of anything with a headphone output - a disc or tape player, maybe. Some people still have those! This was quite an expensive set - at around £175 paid it offers quite a lot - versatile alarm features and decent enough audio. If you want all the features and can live with the niggles, I'd recommend this.
