Wonderful
This CD has the best of the best of Elton if you like his more mellow music. I love every song and everything about it. Live Like Horses is my favorite track and you can interpret it in different ways to make it about your life circumstances.

This is an excellent CD by Elton John!
Some nice ballads, songs, and melodies. Not as good as some of his other albums, but still good Elton John/Bernie Taupin music. I recommend this CD for old and new fans!

Elton & Bernie outdid themselves on this one
I passed this album by when it first came out and I don't really know why; maybe it was the mediocre cover art. But I've been such a huge Elton fan for 40 years and own at least one copy of almost everything he has ever released, so I finally bought The Big Picture as a Christmas present to myself. Wow, I can't believe how much I love this album! Elton's vocals are rich and heartfelt, the melodies demonstrate how much he has matured as a writer, and speaking of writing . . . I think these may be some of the best Taupin lyrics EVER. They are certainly my favorites, and that is saying something! Nearly five months later and I still can't stop listening to it. Elton fans, even casual Elton fans, don't pass this album up because of the funky picture or just because you can't sample the music. Trust me . . . it is a GREAT album!!

I Can't Steer My Heart Clear of Elton.
Even Sir Elton John would be the first to admit that he has had his purple patch, and has subsequently earned his place in the rock'n'roll hall of fame with some terrific rock standards. "The Big Picture" has some catchy tunes which are up to Elton's impeccable standards. I, for one, especially like the soulful hymn"If the River can Bend". And let's not forget Bernie Taupin's lyrics. He single handedly brought literacy to rock and roll.

Easy Listening at its Best
In his autobiography Me Elton John mentioned that his longtime songwriting collaborator Bernie Taupin disliked their album The Big Picture. While he was clearly amused by his friend’s extreme reaction to the album three years after the fact, John stated he also was not overly fond of this work. Had I been privileged to their conversation, I would have pointed out that there are worse things in life than a commercially successful album they didn’t particularly care for. Then I would have proceeded to irritate them by explaining how good I thought the album really was.Since I can’t relate to their dissatisfaction, I can only guess they reached a point where complacency allowed these songs to practically write themselves, without their approval. More critical minds may see the result as mundane, mainstream love songs destined for easy-listening radio stations. Of course, there would be nothing wrong with that if the songs were good, which these are not. They are excellent, and if labeled easy listening, it’s easy listening at its best. However, the songs go further than that as they are free-flowing, passionate, and memorable. The opening track “Long Way from Happiness” could have some listeners questioning their own happiness, “Live Like Horses,” offers a promise of freedom, “Recover Your Soul,” is soothing, and while not exactly a “rocker,” “Wicked Dreams” is a more face-paced tune, giving the album a boost. If that isn’t enough, the album includes “Something About the Way You Look Tonight,” which is technically the number one best seller, as it was released as a double singe with, “Candle in the Wind 1997,” the John/Taupin tribute to the late Princess Diana. My only suggestion would have been to include “You Can Make History (Young Again),” but that appears on Elton John’s Love Songs, and its exclusion takes nothing away from The Big Picture which gets better every time I listen to it. – Sorry Elton and Bernie.

This is great album too from Elton
This is great album too from Elton, but after amazing "Made in England" it felt a bit lame. But only if you compare it to the "MIG"....Best song on the album? Easily "...The way you look tonight" and "Live like horses" <3

Brilliant CD! Once again
Brilliant CD! Once again, I had this on cassette and it had gone all 'wobbly' but couldn't bear to throw it away so googled 'The Big Picture' CD Elton John and again Amazon came to my rescue. Have the CD and play it all the time. Sent one to a friend who also loves it. Great deal!
