Accurate results in 13 days
It took 13 days to receive the results after I mailed them in. I mailed my dog's cheek swabs on April 6. I registered on the website so I could access the progress and results. Testing began April 13. Results were available April 19. I was told my dog was 25% Havanese and the 75% Maltese. That is completely consistent with my dog's physical attributes and personality. I was given my dog's DNA genetic sequence code, a DNA analysis certificate, an explanation of the composition categories, my dog's dominant characteristics, his family tree complete with photos of the breeds of his ancestors, Multi-dog Drug Resistance (MDR1) and Exercise Induce Collapse (EIC) condition screening results. I trust and recommend Viaguard Canine Breed Identification Test.

Not recommended
(Note: Dog DNA and DNA Affirm appear to be the same item sold as DNA My Dog, based on my ordering experience). I decided to DNA test my dog, but also to try three different testing services simultaneously to compare the results. I used what looked like the most popular services: Mars Veterinary Wisdom Panel, Embark, and DNA My Dog. Long-story-short, Mars returned the results surprisingly quickly, while DNA My Dog took ridiculously long to get the results (ironic, since the speed of results is one of its marketing points), but hands down Embark took by far the longest to return results. The services were not wholly consistent in their results. They all provided the same primary breed ancestry, but did not agree on the secondary breeds. Both Mars and Embark provided the same breed results. DNA My Dog appeared to provide results more closely aligned with the picture of the dog I uploaded, but different from the other two. Subsequently, I tested another dog with both Mars and DNA My Dog. I did not upload a picture. Mars returned correct results based on what was known about the dog. DNA My Dog provided ridiculously wrong results (large breed results for a 19 pound dog). Embark is superior to Mars in the amount and depth of analysis provided, especially the health analysis. All in all, I’m inclined to favor Mars for faster, lower cost results delivery. However, if time and price are not an issue, then Embark provides the most comprehensive, informative, and interesting results. I do not recommend DNA My Dog.

Worked Great For Us
We did three of our dogs. All three of these dogs came of the streets of Houston, TX. They were all unhealthily and had heart worms except the big one. The big one lived on the streets untouched by humans for at least 6 months. That said we had no idea what kind of dogs (it really makes no difference as far as we love them goes). We knew the one was part Pug based on the color wrinkled face ect. but had no idea the other part She is part Feist which perfectly explains behavior and general attitude perfectly. The 14 year old terrier mix came back cain terrier as the largest amount which was already guessed by vet etc but was still good to get all the other breeds mixed because there is a few.The Large dog which people always said she was a pit mix. My doubts about that is she is larger than pit pulls and loves water to swim and play in. Her chip (yes she had a chip) American Bulldog. Her results Dogue de Bordeaux which I never heard of and lesser extent Bull Mastiff and Old English Bulldog. Makes perfect sense as she is 75 to 80 lbs small for Dogue de Bordeaux but the other breeds in her and the fact that much of her early life was on the street and lack of nutrition.I think the test were very accurate and recommend this product.

Amazing results!
I am so glad that I got this for my dog. I adopted him from the local shelter, and I could see that he had some German shepherd coloring. I wanted to know what he was, so I got this product. I did the cheek swab with some help, and sent it out through the mail. It did take a lot longer than two weeks. Maybe the lab was backed up? Not sure, it was about 4 weeks or maybe even 5 when I finally got the email. I did email them first because I wanted to make sure they even got the sample in the mail. When I got the results my dog was said to be German shepherd, golden retriever and boarder collie. It explains so much about him, his personality traits, colors and markings, and his ears! Definitely worth the price and waiting time.

The test was easy to do and the results came back in the expected time frame. I was pleased with the outcome, and understood them completely. I have read a lot of people say this test just tells you what your dog looks like based upon the picture, or what you say you think your dog is. I said I think he is a Jack Russell and that was not one of the breeds they sent back. I also sent a picture of just his face in which he looks like a husky. That was also not a result. I do believe the results that I received were conclusive. I would buy again (and may in the future just to check out one of my other dogs).

Inaccurate results and misleading communication from company
This test was a waste of money and I'm trying to get a refund from DNAffirm. I have two dogs, one is a mixed breed and the other is a German SHephard dog. I first did a test on the mixed breed and then did a test on the German Shepherd to see how accurate they test was. After two weeks, my German Shephard Dog's results were inconclusive and I was told the test needed to be rerun using the same samples I originally sent in. I asked if a "rush" could be requested so that I wouldn't have to wait another two weeks. There is only one person who handles Canine DNA results and she seems to work every other day, so when I called to check on the results I was told I'd have to call back another day when the girl was in. After another 2 weeks (no rush was done) I received the results. They came back primarily Boxer with a bit of Samoyed and nothing else. Then a few hours later I reseived a second set of results, again no German Shephard Dog but several other breeds like Pomeranian, Australian SHepherd, Terrier, Shiba Enu. I've called twice since receiving my faulty results and so far cannot speak to the manager or anyone else about a refund. I am told the person I need to speak to had an emergency sick day and I need to call back, which I will do tomorrow.
