There are no straps to hold the child, only to go around the chair. **Q: Can one of the straps be used to buckle up the little one?** A: yes, there are a set of straps that can be used to buckle a child in. **Q: can an adult use theses boosters to sit on for more comfort while driving a vehicle?** A: I cannot answer as far as the safety aspect of using this in the car, but as far as comfort....it is not soft. It did not mold to the body of the person sitting in it.
