It is not like a "chap stick" as others have explained. You apply the amount you like and wipe away any excess with the included cloth or any cloth. **Q: How are you supposed to get the bottom of the strings?** A: Typically, you do not get the bottom of strings. Great for string change for fret board as well. Use the cloth to clean the bottom side of strings. **Q: How often does fast frets need to be replaced? I'm assuming they get dirty and accumulate dirt and oils over time?** A: I use Fast Frets when I change strings. I should probably use it more often because it works well. I have several guitars and restring each of themv3 or 4 times per year.
