Given the pics and my previous purchase I gave it a shot and sure enough everything appeared correct. It shipped simply in desertcart bubble mailer and did not have a box for the filter, just a round clear plastic cover for the side that connects to the mower. Sticker on the filter indicates Stens but branding on the filter itself does appear to be genuine Kohler as was the one being replaced. Went on easy and no issues with using as should. (max): 0Capacity: 0Filter Area: 0They appear to have very similar qualities, but I think the 12-050-01 (Wix 51056) is slightly taller and has a better micron rating (meaning it will filter smaller particles,) but calling Kohler directly at 800.544.2444 would probably be the best way to make sure. **Q: Are these kohler filters? the picture has none of the printing on them like my oem kohler filter does.** A: The box mine came in says Kohler 12 050 01-S on it and is bar coded, so I presume it is a Kohler filter. There are no markings on the filter itself. I presume the "S" indicates it is a slightly shorter filter which allows it to fit on the engine I have that has a side-mounted filter that just fits against the mower frame. I have had no problem with the filter fit or operation. **Q: Will this model (12 050 01) substitute for 52 050 02? I thought I ordered the right #, but I received this part instead.** A: the Kohler engine manual shows that you could have either. the12050 01s is 2 1/2 in. the 52 050 02 s is 3 3/8 in, I think it depends on whether you have clearancefor the longer filter.
