I use these dust caps to keep my Ethernet keystone jacks clean of dust when not in use. They're really needed when such ports face up, such as when a router or switch is wall mounted, and optional when the ports are in their more common horizontal orientation. I don't know how well they will age, but they work well and give me some peace of mind, since installing LAN ports is such a hassle.
