How many are in a pack?

There are only two total sheets. Not two packs of two. Just two giant sheets. I am saying this because I misunderstood it as being two packs of two sheets totaling four. Nope. Just two sheets.

If laid flat on the ground, how much weight can one board support?

They are not designed to be put on the ground and have weight put on them. I would not recommend doing this. They are designed to be slipped into a sandwich board sign with writing or posters applied but I would not put weight on it.

Are the flutes for the stakes arranged for the sign to display horizontally or vertically?

They are arranged to display vertically, 36" high.

What can be used to write directly on these sheets, be waterproof while up, but then be erased (with alcohol?) later?

No, whatever writing goes on it stays on it. I used magic markers...

Use this plastic sign sheet to make a star for my pixel Christmas tree. It was actually easy to cut but really sturdy enough to be able to carry 40 individual pixels and be perfectly straight and feels really strong like it won’t bend or sag. The thickness is just perfect for what I needed for, you can see on picture how it looks with all the led pixels in it. Worked out great!! Would recommend it for a project like mine.

The two sheets were well packaged and the material itself quite sturdy. It is better than the stuff you seen lawn signs made from. It cuts well with an exacto type of knife and hot melt adhesives bond well onto it. Quite pleased with it.
