A positive result will not change after the test is completed at 5 minutes. However, in order to prevent any incorrect result the test results should not be interpreted after 15 minutes.

**Q: I see a very faint line, or what looks like a line in the test area. Is this a positive result?**
A: Faint lines in the test area, as long as the faint line is the same color as the other line, tend to indicate extremely early pregnancy. The reason it’s so faint is because there’s HCG present, but it’s not in high enough concentration to make a bold line. HCG doubles every 24 hours once it’s being produced, so if you see a faint line (and you’re pregnant) you’ll see a slightly darker line the next day, and a darker line the day after that. If you don’t see a darker line as time goes on, or the line disappears altogether, it’s possible you had a chemical pregnancy (where your egg was fertilized, but for whatever reason it wasn’t viable and so it never made it to the embryo stage)
If the faint line isn’t the same color as the other line, however, it may be an evaporation line where your urine made it to that point and dried, leaving a faint almost squiggly line.
