Works good in area that has lousy reception

Saw a few previous reviews that weren't that good but thought I would take the plunge anyway. I have seen comments about problems with the winding mechanism but take your time and it winds in easily. Definatly makes a huge difference when plugged into my Eton G3, in fact often the bands come alive with stations that are just not audiable at all with the telescopic ariel. Time will tell how robust it really is but it's in regular use now and if it eventually breaks at this price I would just buy another.

This is a simple "wire antenna" combined with a clip adapter (to connect it to another antenna) and a case to keep the wire contained and tidy. As such this antenna will either help or hurt your radio reception depending upon how you use it. Point this antenna wire in the wrong place and your radio signal will get worse. However, proper deployment of this antenna can make a large difference in how well your radio will receive its signal. In my case I already owned a weather radio, which was barely receiving its stongest weather radio station. So I bought this antenna to see if it would help my weather radio pick up the broadcasts I wanted access to. The initial test (where I fully extended the wire) was NOT a success, and actuallly resulted in lower pickup than with the radio's builtin antenna. However, what did work was to clip this antenna onto the radio's builtin antenna, leave most of the antenna wire coiled up in its case, but postion that case where I expected the weather radio station's signal to be strongest. After doing that, I went from barely receiving the weather radio station (which was maybe 40 miles from my house) to getting a very clear signal from that weather station (albeit still with some background static on the audio). So overall, I consider this "external antenna" experiment to be a success. NOTE: This antenna can be directly plugged into any radio that comes with an external antenna jack. Since my weather radio did not include such an antenna jack, I intead used the supplied adapter to just clip this wire antenna onto the builtin antenna that came with my radio (effectively using this wire antenna as an extension to the builtin antenna the radio came with).
