Other than being able to reel it up, is this antenna any better than the external wire antenna that comes with the Tecsun PL-660?

I have found that looping a copper speaker wire or 14 gauge stranded electrical wire to the telescope antenna works well across all frequencies S/W, FM, Weather. There's no need for this external antenna.

will this work for AM?

AM radios have a built-in antenna. You have to turn the radio for a better signal.

Would this work for a radio that's installed under a cabinet?

Sure,As long as the antenna jack is the right one.And you have a little room where the antenna hooks up. I use mine with a small AM/FM HAM Radio. I have run the end up to the end of my curtain to stretch it out.

so I just clip it to the top of my antenna that's in the radio and hang the spool on a hook near a window is that how I use it

Basically yes. But if you could clip it to your antenna get the rest outside and close the window on it, better. Run it horizontally along the house or out to a pole as much as you can. Best.

For the money I don't think you can complain

Saw a few previous reviews that weren't that good but thought I would take the plunge anyway. I have seen comments about problems with the winding mechanism but take your time and it winds in easily. Definatly makes a huge difference when plugged into my Eton G3, in fact often the bands come alive with stations that are just not audiable at all with the telescopic ariel. Time will tell how robust it really is but it's in regular use now and if it eventually breaks at this price I would just buy another.
