How will you know that the water is boiling? How long do you wait before pouring over coffee?

The lid has 3 small holes next to each other, when the water starts boiling steam starts streaming out of the holes so you know the water is ready (boiling). I think you wait from 30 to 120 seconds before pouring over coffee.

Has anyone experienced any rust issues with this kettle? I noticed this problem from reviews of similar kettles of different brands.

I had it for 1 month, noticed several rust spots on the bottom. Somehow I do have rusty problems with products made recently(late 2014~2015). My third rusty kettle.

Can you get your hand in the top to wash out the kettle?

I doubt you can fit your whole hand in the kettle because the diameter of the opening is approx. 3 inches. But you can reach the interior surface area of the kettle with your fingers and a sponge, so cleaning it should not be a problem.

being stainless steel, does this kettle really work on an induction stovetop?

YES, it's clearly labeled such on the packaging. the reason is because there are various types of SS. The body of the kettle is made of 18/8 stainless steel (non magnetic) but the bottom is 18/0 SS (magnetic) to be compatible with induction cooktop but the trade off is that it is NOT rust proof so you do want to take care to dry it out. you can search online on articles about the various stainless steel types and their corrosion resistance.
