No. There is no seal on the lid. It is glass to glass but still has a good closure to it.

will a 5 lb. bag of sugar fit in this jar?

It will hold 8 lbs. of sugar (granulated or brown) which fills the jar up to the neck. Remember, that means no room for the measuring scoop to get in and out. BUT it will comfortably hold 5 lbs. of sugar with enough room for the 1-cup measuring cup.

To manufacture: can you make this glass jar with silicone gaskets to keep food fresh longer ? i prefer this all glass jar than your fresh sield jar.
