Why does it say "100% cotton, and then go on to say "4percent polyester, 1percent other"? that's not 100% cotton!

Totally agree it should say 95% cotton, because that is the truth. However, this is FAR more breathable organic material than any other mattress pad currently on Amazon unless you spend >3 times this amount. And keep in mind that if even the sides were 100% cotton, it wouldn't function like you expect a mattress pad to work because cotton is in no way elastic. If you want it to fit tightly to your mattress, it CAN'T be 100% cotton throughout.  That would just be a blanket.  Most people care about the top, filling, & bottom layers, not the elastic sides, since your body doesn't touch the elastic sides. Also keep in mind you don't get any waterproofing from 100% cotton.  And keep in mind loose cotton fill in the sewed pockets will wad up when you wash it, just as many of the reviews point out here. There's your proof it is actually very high cotton content. If you don't care about waterproofing and only want the most breathable mattress pad possible, the ideal would be 100% cotton surface material with organic down in the pockets, because down maintains some ability to loft again after washing. I don't know of any 100% cotton/down fill mattress pad that isn't very, very expensive.  You could perhaps buy a lower-priced but still expensive down comforter or duvet with a 100% cotton cover in lieu of a mattress pad, and tuck in the sides (because it isn't going to be elastic of course).
