Excellent solution for fast lawn repair!
Scott's EZ Seed Patch and Repair is the go-to grass repair solution when you need to fill in areas quickly. I've been into perfecting turfgrass for decades and I have a tried and true method of turf repair that I embark on each autumn. Without getting into the details, after the overseeding and fertilizing efforts, there are always a few areas that require a little more help. That's when I buy a big (expensive) bag of Scott's EZ Seed Patch. It works extremely well, timing-wise. The speed at which it grows is essential because I typically use this product as "Round 2" of my autumn lawn repair project. And in the northeast, we have a narrow window for autumn lawn building. This stuff grows fast and thick! Soil preparation is imperative. A hard raking and soil loosening is essential. Then if you use this product liberally and water it at least once a day, you'll have thick grass growing in two weeks. Most grass seed takes two to three times longer than that. With regular grass seed, I typically expect similar results over 4 to 6 weeks. So, if you're looking for quick results in fixing your lawn, this is a great solution. One final note: This product is very dry and dusty. Please consider wearing a mask to prevent breathing in the fine particles of fertilizers and other substances as you work.

Amazing results
I really wish I had taken before and after pictures of our yard! This product works amazingly well. We used it to fill in bare spots where our kids had driven over the grass, and it completely repaired the damage. I highly recommend it for patching up tough spots.

Crab grass... the uncomfortable type of "grass"
I have crab grass that's been filling up our entire backyard ever since we bought our home seven years ago. Crab grass grows fast and is an invasive weed. Because it's weed, I learned that you can slowly kill crab grass by watering less often and deeper into the soil so that only good grass' roots can get water. With that in mind, I wanted to put that knowledge to the test by ripping out some large portions of crab grass from the back yard. (TIP: water the soil a bit so it's easier to rip the crab grass out) Once the ground was bare soil, I loosened it up a bit and pulled out any remaining crab grass/dead weed. Next, I sprinkled this Scotts seed (Tall Fescue grass) onto a small section to see what would happen. NOTHING GREW. I was disappointed. Then I read the instructions on the packaging: 1. Spread the seeds/fertilizer into the ground 2. Loosen/turn the soil 3. Water daily as needed to keep the soil moist for the first 2 weeks I changed my sprinkler to water every 2 days for 5 minutes. End result? Grass grew after a week, and now it has increasingly become fuller! See photos for the results! Once the grass has grown acceptably, I will change the sprinkler system to water less frequently again (but deeper through cycle soaking) in order to starve the crab grass weed of water and to help the new grass establish deeper roots. SUMMARY: water often in the first 2 weeks to help sprout the new grass. Once it's established, water less frequently (but cycle soak) so the new grass grows deeper roots.

Works anywhere
I recently used Scotts EZ Seed Patch and Repair for Tall Fescue Lawns, and I'm thrilled with the results. This product is a real game-changer when it comes to revitalizing my lawn. Firstly, the combination of mulch, seed, and fertilizer in one package makes it incredibly convenient. It simplifies the process of patching and repairing my lawn, saving me time and effort. The 20 lb. bag provides ample coverage, making it suitable for larger areas or multiple applications. The tackifier feature is a standout benefit. It helps to prevent seed wash-away, especially in rainy or windy conditions, ensuring that the seeds stay in place and have a better chance of germinating. This added protection gave me confidence that my effort and investment wouldn't go to waste. I also appreciate the quality of the seed and fertilizer. The Tall Fescue seed is of high quality, and the fertilizer provides essential nutrients that promote healthy grass growth. The mix has consistently produced lush and green grass in the repaired areas of my lawn. The application process is straightforward, and the instructions on the bag are easy to follow. I appreciate that Scotts provides clear guidance on how to achieve the best results. Overall, Scotts EZ Seed Patch and Repair for Tall Fescue Lawns is a reliable and effective solution for anyone looking to improve the health and appearance of their lawn. It's user-friendly, convenient, and delivers noticeable results. I highly recommend this product to homeowners seeking an easy and effective way to rejuvenate their grass.

best for sun & not shade - UPDATED 06/16/16
Be patient! Takes a few weeks to come up but comes up very strong. I was dissappointed to get 36 lbs of "mulch"/fertilizer & approximately 4 lbs of actual grass seed. Much of the mulch washed away after heavy rains just after planting. This grass seed clearly prefers warm sunny soil. In shade it is very thin and sparse. Definitely NOT a shade oriented grass seed. UPDATE: 06/16/16 The grass is now fairly plush in sun. Do Not plant in shade. Doesn't work. Extremely Sparse. Also: The small sunny area that did come up is very "Dirty". Meaning there are hundreds of broadleaf and other weeds. Since planting Scotts, we have planted other brands of seed. One is "Lacrosse" Madison sunny mix in Adjacent soil. Came up without a single weed. I noticed on the outside of bag of Lacrosse seed that it lists a % of non grass seed. It was a tiny fraction of a percent. Basically nothing. Have long since thrown the Scotts bag away, but there is a lot of seed in there that is NOT grass seed. Now due to the young age of the grass we are unable to use a weed killer so as the grass thrives, so do the many many weeds! I would never buy this product or recommend it to anyone.

Does not work
I had my gardener put this down in a large area where he removed a bush. I then put it in about 30 small holes that we made by squirrels digging up my lawn, and an area around my mailbox that the handyman dug up to fix my maibox post. I faithfully watered it, per the directions. It takes ALOT of water due to the expanding mulch. But watered I did. It's been 2 full weeks. There has been absolutely no new growth whatsoever. Now I still have the large brown area from the bush, the mailbox and all the holes, my water bill ( the town I live in owns the water company and we call it liquid gold, but to water the large area, over and over, and fact that it just keeps absorbing water due to the expand mulch - I probably spent 20$ on water), and I'm out the money. I had read reviews before that said the same thing. I should have listened and just put down grass seed. Now I have to leave town for a month, don't have time to water everyday and will have the big spot on my lawn from the bush, all the rest, for at least 6 more weeks. I take pride in my lawn, this has been an epic fail. I'd strongly advise anyone reading this NOT to buy this product.

Best product for filling in bare patches on lawn
Ez Seed did as promised! Within 2 weeks I saw several new grass sprouts and by 1 month about 75% of the dead dry spots had filled in. I did the first application in early May, and by today (June 30th) almost all of my lawn has completely regrown. The climate where I live is very dry (Northern Nevada), so keeping the lawn alive is a yearly battle. This time, I put in a bit of extra effort before laying down the seeds. I got an electric dethatcher, which ripped out large weeds and rustled up the bare dirt about 2 inches deep. That allowed the seed to really burrow into the dirt, instead of just sitting on top. I tried to follow the instructions on the Ez Seed container to water daily, although admittedly I did end up skipping 2 days in a row early on. Amazingly, the seedlings still sprouted. Three weeks after laying down the Ez Seed, I looked for any remaining dry patches and used a metal rake to remove portions of old dead grass which were smothering these areas. I also used a manual aerator on those stubborn spots, and then applied more seed. It’s now been 6 weeks and I feel like I have a lawn again!! I would definitely suggest waiting 2 weeks after seeding before mowing, so the little sprouts have a chance to develop. At my house, grass grows at ridiculously varying rates – in areas that get full sun, it grows about 2” in 2 weeks. Areas where it’s shaded by a giant pyracantha bush, or by sections of the house, it grows almost 12” in 2 weeks! I have to adjust the height setting on my mower to accommodate this, but ended up with a fairly even surface. I did get a giant portion of broadleaf weeds in the especially dry areas, about 3 weeks after seeding, but that’s to be expected for such barren ground. I target sprayed them with Spectracide Weed & Grass Killer, making sure to not get any on the surrounding new grass. It took care of about 70% of the weeds, and I continue to target spray any new ones that pop up. Just make sure if you use Spectracide, you don’t use a wide-angle sprayer – you want to target each individual weed, not the surrounding grass. As a side note, I would also recommend Scott’s Turf Builder Tall Fescue Mix – When I ran out of the EZ seed, I filled in remaining patches with that, and it worked great as well. Highly recommend Scott’s products, and I will definitely be keeping EZ Seed on hand for any dry patches that need filling!!

Follow the instructions and trust the process
Works great. Just follow the instructions and put it on after a light rain or in the morning when there’s dew and make sure you’re certain you’ve got two dry days in a row after you put it down. My husband has been using this for a couple of years and our yard is green, thick, and virtually weedless. Unfortunately, the price has gone up significantly. We live in NE Ohio and he does it in the spring and summer, just making sure there’s two months in between.
