The Guy's Best Cookbook
Ever found yourself not cooking Filipino food because you cannot understand the terminology used in other cookbooks, don't know where to find the ingredients or how common cooking techniques are executed (and you don't know who to ask)? Love this book; a new favorite
A terrific Filipino food cookbook with many of the recipes that my dad used to fix for the family. He was a chef for Navy Officers, and sometimes treated them with Filipino dishes which they loved. I especially enjoyed the brief history of the Spanish, Mexican, and Philippines influence across those cultures which impacted many of the recipes that we use today. The photos in the book were well done and the recipes easy to follow. So glad that I selected this book of the several available through Amazon. I was not disappointed and have sent a copy to my son to use for preparing these 'new' recipes for his family.

Tasty recipes
The recipes are not difficult to prepare, and they are very tasty. Mr. Gapultos includes sources for some hard-to-find ingredients which is helpful particularly if you live where you don't have access to specialty food stores. This cookbook is a great introduction to Adobo.

Every Recipe a Winner
I purchased this cookbook several months ago and my wife and I have made about five or six dishes, including some of of our Filipino favorites. Without fail, every dish we have made has been delicious. My wife is a Filipina and missed her family's homemade meals. She also rated this cookbook "five stars." Unlike many other cookbooks, The Adobo Road Cookbook's ingredients list is completely manageable, with most items available at the local grocery store and the remainder easily accessible through a local Asian market or online (e.g. fish sauce or lumpia wrappers). The recipes are also easy to follow and quick to prepare. I recommend the "pork and vegetable lumpia" and "stir fried wheat-flour noodles with shrimp and vegetables." I have about half a dozen Filipino cookbooks, but if you have to choose just one Filipino cookbook for your kitchen, this is the one I would recommend.

Got Rice?
This book is excellently written. I have read other Filipino receipt book and this has to be one of the best if not the best. You can feel the warmth and family environment in which the book was written. It takes me back to my youthful day when dad used to cook for us. I grew up in a Filipino neighbor that was closely knitted and would always exchange foods. As a young teenager we would work picking and packing fruits and vegetables from Imperial Valley to Delano, Oxnard and other place in between. But we always eat good pinoy food because several Filipino families would go together. This book is right on. Thanks for such a great book; the only drawback is that I'm gaining the weight back.

Great addition to my collection
I frequent the Burnt Lumpia blog for delicious Filipino recipes so when Marvin finally came out with a cookbook, I quickly placed it on pre-order. Great authentic recipes, yet I also like his spin on "new" recipes, e.g. spicy adobo wings. I was pleasantly surprised to find the recipe for cascarone as this is a dessert that my late nanang (grandmother) and tita (auntie) only made. I've made it several times for my kids and I am happy to say that it's 100% exactly the way I remembered as a child. If you are a Filipino-American trying to reconnect with your culinary roots, or a foodie who appreciates all types of foods and wants to experience Filipino cuisine, I highly recommend 2 cookbooks - The Adobo Road Cookbook and Philippine Cookbook (by Reynaldo Alejandro).

Good Start
Made the chicken adobo and was really pleased with the recipe. Has been the closest so far to what I ate in Luzon over the years. Not completely the same but very good. A little too much vinegar for me but that isn't necessarily the recipes fault as each of us prefer different flavors in different intensities. Additionally, depending on the region, not all adobo is the same in the different regions of those wonderful islands. I'm looking forward to trying some other recipes as well. So far I'm very pleased. However, I will add that I approach most international recipes with the sense that I'm trying to get close to what I remember the food tasting like. I'll adjust them to fit my tastes while still staying authentic. So far this has been a good book choice.

From the beginning of the book that gives both a short description of the derivation of Filipino food and an interesting, short resume of the author's interest in Filipino cooking and his approach to it, I appreciated the book. The recipes were clearly organization in a way that fits the western mind and instructions were clear and thorough.

Very Good Cookbook
This book contains all the classic Filipino dishes, it is easy to follow, has some great pictures on nice glossy pages and it also explains the English name of the dish under the Filipino name which I found very helpful. I bought this book to learn to cook some Filipino dishes for my boyfriend who is half Filipino, half English. He loves this book too. I would recommend it.
