"Jodo Notebook" is a fully illustrated manual of the Basic techniques (Kihon) of Shindo Muso Ryu (SMR) and the Zen Nippon Kendo Renmei (ZNKR), and the 12 Kata of Seitei Jodo. It is an invaluable supplement to Jodo training to make learning easier and faster as well. Jodo (Japanese stick fighting) is taught either in Shindo Muso Ryu, or in the Zen Nippon Kendo Renmei under the name Seitei Jodo. Both systems share the same Basics (12 Kihon). The differences are in the Kata (12 in Seitei Jodo, and 64 in SMR), and the training with other weapons arts besides the Jo and the Sword (Tachi) in Shindo Muso Ryu (in the 64 SMR Kata). The ZNKR Jodo organization is by far the largest international Jodo organization. Very few books are available on Jodo. Jodo is taught worldwide, but newer literature in English is hard to get. Most of the literature is in Japanese. The Notebook is made to fill this gap in literature. The author is co-writer with George W. Alexander of The Dictionary of Japanese Martial Arts, and illustrator of The Way of White Crane Karate, both from Yamazato Productions. Review: Great book... - Very detailed. Perfect to help with learning the Kihon and Kata. Review: Five Stars - Perfect as a reference manual for all levels.

I recommend it to all Jojutsu players who want to do ...
The Seitei katas were broken down well enough (both illustration and written descriptions) to allow following without any trouble. AND, the same was done with the shidachi side of the waza. Well done. I recommend it to all Jojutsu players who want to do the Jodo Seitei prior to the SMJR routines.

Great book for students of Jodo to remember the basics of ZNKR jodo
A lot of useful basic information concerning etiquette and basic Jo handling, detailed descriptions with nice clear drawings to explain kihon, paired kihon and kata's (ZNKR only). Up to date information, clear and precise drawings, although as can be expected not every detail and nuance can be fully explained in a book compared to studying with qualified teacher, but it's certainly a very good reminder for the serious students who want's to practice at home and remember what has been taught in the dojo.

Excellent book! Very well laid out and easy to follow. If you want to know more about the Jo this is an excellent place to start.

highly recommend
the best martial arts book i have ever seen. as it says in the intro, any book is no substitute for proper training with an instructor but once you have a foundation, this book will take you much farther. all forms of Jodo are discussed so the author is not playing favourites with one school or the other, i have a great respect for this attitude.
