You place the new SSD in the adaptor and connect it via the included USB 3.1 (or C) cable to your PC, laptop, etc, then format the new SSD. I then ran a program called Paragon Hard Disk Manager which clones your old SSD. Once finished, I replaced the old SSD with the new SSD and booted up the system. It ran beautifully and looked just like my old SSD; just with more space on the SSD. All the old programs and bootups were exactly as they were before; I've had mine new SSD for a couple weeks now and have yet to notice anything different from my old SSD. I couldn't be more pleased. **Q: Are Samsung drives recognized by their file transfer program?** A: Yes. After connecting the drive through USB-c, open disk management on your windows machine and select “initialize”. The Samsung data migration software will recognize the drive and allow you to clone your existing drive. Mine was a Kingston drive in the laptop.
