will these staples fit a PowerShot Pro model 8000?

Yes. This PowerShot model uses T50 staples in 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 1/2" and 9/16" lengths.

Are these galvanized?

The staples are NOT galvanized.

I am uncertainties, but the recommended uses include housewrap, insulation weather stripping, roof paper and vapor barrier. Some of those could be subject to moisture. I have a box that has been in my garage or tool box for about 7 years and they show no sifn of corrosion or in particular rust.

If you don't have a staple gun, can these be hammered into wood to attach mesh?

These are designed to work with staple guns. Using them as you described may cause the staples to bend.
