First, the good news: I think it's accurate enough for my purposes, and it's light and non-bulky. The bad news: It was shipped with a dead battery--not that big a deal, but recommend you TEST yours before you put the itty bitty screw back in the battery compartment--it's not easy to remove that, nor put it back together, and that will save you from doing it twice. It's got lots of functions, but the instructions are poor, i.e. there is nothing specifically to tell you how to change the default Celsius readings to Fahrenheit. I just lucked into it and am hoping that it won't get messed up. The most disappointing thing is that the display is hard to read in daylight, and the laser impossible, so one must wave the probe vaguely all around and estimate which temp is actually from what part of the fire--not ideal, since I bought it to use for wood-firing pottery. Once dusk falls, the laser is easy to see, enabling pinpoint precision. All in all, it's worth having but if I were to do it over, I'd find a different one.
