But I now know why that is. Others have said it only works half of the time, but I noticed it only ever seemed to malfunction when I was out and about. it turns out, ambient light is the issue! If you try to use it in strong sunlight it will not work, you have to shield it or the outside light will interfere with the IR sensor and stop it from functioning. Indoors it works fine, but out in the field, when around strong light, cup the Oximeter in your hand to block-out surrounding light and it will work just fine - The thing uses light signatures to work, so this makes sense. But still yeah, I very nearly sent it back to Amazon. Also just to note, after enquiring about returning the item the seller was very generous with their offers of compensation. So that's worth an extra star!
