Do you plug the adapter onto the cable, then into the device? Or adapter into device, then cable? Any other instructions?

This particular EDID adapter is bi-directional. The signal source can connect to either the male or female side of the adapter, allowing it to be placed on either end of the HDMI cable. Most EDID adapters I've used are directional (only pass signal one way), but this model does not have this limitation. My guess is that the EDID information is passed to both connectors on the adapter. The device providing the signal source (DVD player, laptop computer, etc.) receives the EDID data and sends the requested signal while the TV/computer monitor on the other end of the adapter ignores this data.

What is the range on this?

Do you mean range as in distance it will work? It's not wireless. They're about 2 inches long.

Can this be used for a 1080p video output to a monitor of 1600x900p res?

No it doesn’t brought one for my son n it doesn’t work…

Will this emulate the edid and pass 4k hdr/dolby vision signal from my avr to tv?
