Corded Electric is the way to go for big jobs
15 AMP 18-inch Corded Oregon Chainsaw – Homeowner and Firewood getter…First use was a 6-hour torture test. Cut seven tree’s in 10” to 14” thickness. Some were hardwoods, and others were pines. There were a couple of dozen smaller trees and shrubs with some aggressive pruning on many others. All total, the saw cut about 90 yds of slash and about a cord of firewood. The saw ran for hours non-stop.I did this all with a generator. The saw runs fine on a Honda 2000 13.3 Amp generator. It never blew the breaker, but I suggest you turn off the Eco-Throttle, so the generator doesn’t have to ramp up every time you pull the trigger on the saw. I’m not sure it would work with anything less than a 13.3 amp generator. We put two tanks of fuel through the generator for about 6 hours of run time.POWER - It cuts as fast as my Homelite 45cc 18-inch gas saw. It didn’t feel any slower. It wasn’t bogging any more or less than my gas saw either. Its also very quiet. I didn’t need hearing protection.SELF SHARPENER - I was skeptical of the blade sharpening system, but I will never buy another saw without this feature. A quick 3 or 4-second press on the sharpening button, and the saw cuts like butter again. I can’t say enough good things about this feature. Every saw should have this feature.TOOLESS CHAIN TENSIONER – Is another great feature, but you have to keep an eye on it. The adjustment knob locking wheel will sometimes back out. It’s a finger twist setup, and I don’t have as much torque in my fingertips as I used to. When the locking wheel comes loose, the tension adjuster can back out, and you lose tension on the chain. Once you realize this is a possibility, you will start to tweak on the lock out of habit to prevent this. Stronger hands may have different results. The convenience this feature affords cannot be denied. Again, this will become a must-have on all saws in the future.SAFETY – When you take your finger off the trigger, the saw stops dead. Typical gas saws will continue to spin for a moment when you release the trigger. This is the number one reason you should wear chaps. Your arms tire and you bounce the blade off your leg. I’m not saying you don’t need chaps with this saw, but it’s far safer in this regard.THINGS TO CONSIDER - I popped the chain off a few times. Maybe 3 times during the 6-hour session. It’s important to realize that it’s best to pull the bar completely off when resetting the chain. The chain was only sketchy like this when trimming thin grabby branches. Limbs so thin they hang up on the chain. My gut instinct is that this happens a little more with this style chain than with a more traditional chain you see on saws without this system. Still, I would not give up the self-sharpening feature because of this. It’s far better to have a constantly sharp chain, for this minor inconvenience. It only takes a tool-free minute to get the chain back on.The handle is set at an angle. It can be a little weird for those acrobatic cuts, but it feels more ergonomic for most typical cuts. I adapted very quickly.Overall… I bought this saw because, yet again, the carb on my gas carb was fouled. My fault, but still a reoccurring issue over the years. I couldn’t make it work this time, even after two complete disassemblies and a dip in the ultrasonic cleaning tank. I screwed with it for 3 hours before I gave up and ordered a new carb. There will always be a need in my life for a gas saw, but combine this saw with a generator mounted on an ATV or lawn tractor, and it can’t be beaten. And as for battery saws… it’s too soon. Your electric truck will be a generator long before somebody invents a chainsaw battery that will last hours.

It did the job well!
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for your decisions or lack thereof. This homeowner-grade chainsaw did the job nicely. Yes, it requires an extension cord and power outlet, but that was ok for me. I liked NOT having to fuss with a gas engine. The saw handled 22-inch logs as I proceeded patiently. I rolled the log to circumcise it.I used vegetable/canola oil in a squirting ketchup bottle from the kitchen to keep the oil filled. The perk is that you can smell the blade's heat cook the canola oil while sawing, so you know the oil is flowing. Smells like dinner is on the stove!Keep the oil filled - watch the oil gauge window on the side. Work patiently. Work slowly. Work safely (Goggles, earplugs, no dangling stuff, etc..) Read the directions! It is not a lumber-jack level chainsaw, but I didn't need one, and this saw definitively did the trick.Chain tensioning is a breeze with an outside dial: Twist one way, the chain gets tighter. Twist the the other way, it loosens. No other tools, disassembly, nor adjustment is needed. Could not be simpler!Clean up was just as easy: !! * Unplug the saw * !! Wait for the metal to cool * !! Wear leather gloves * !! Unscrew the cover, remove the blade, remove the chain. No extra tools needed. I brushed off the wood shavings from the blade, chain, body, gears, workings, cover, body and everything with an old brush and wiped everything clean. Reassembled everything in opposite order - Good to go!One minor detail: I stored the saw on a shelf on top of old card board to catch the last dribbles of canola oil.A great saw for the homeowner at a great price.

Nice saw design. Responsive company.
This review is for the CS1500-091 chainsaw. This is my first electric chainsaw. I purchased it because I use chainsaws so infrequently that the gas goes stale, the oil leaks, the chain needs sharpening, or something else goes wrong with the motor requiring maintenance each time I need one, which is deeply frustrating and expensive if you don't do your own small motor maintenance and chain sharpening. I decided that I'm willing to accept the limitations of an extension cord in trade for greater reliability and availability. (Besides the cord, another exception to availability is that you don't want to be using an electric saw in wet conditions, even light rain, whereas a gas saw is more forgiving.)My first impressions of the saw were good. The manual is thorough and well-written. It is frustrating to get a thick manual that is so thick only because it is in four different languages. This isn't that big a deal, though, as I normally download the PDF version of manual(s) to my cloud storage immediately after purchase. After I'm comfortable with the operation and maintenance procedures, I toss the paper copy and just use the digital version as needed for reference.Speaking of maintenance. RTFM (Read The Fine Manual) before use! Several of the bad reviews are obviously attributable to user error. There are at least three procedures you NEED to perform or be familiar with before getting started.1. ALWAYS WEAR GLOVES while handling the saw with the chain exposed. This is the sharpest chain I've ever encountered - razor sharp. I was just (very carefully) examining it and got a nick from lightly touching the chain.2. BEFORE USE, remove the chain and bar, add chain/bar oil, and run the motor until you confirm the oil is flowing correctly. It comes with about 3.5 oz. or oil in a tiny bottle. That'll get you started, but for serious use you'll need more soon.3. Tension the chain correctly WHILE COLD, and re-tension after a few minutes of use WHILE COLD. I suspect some of the reports of premature chain and/or bar damage are directly attributable to lack of priming the oil or failure to tension correctly. I've found I can tension while warm, but be sure to back off the tension immediately after stopping use of the saw so the cooling chain does not overtighten. One caveat - If you are like me, you much prefer to register a product online. However, until their web site is updated, please spare yourself the pain and just fill out the card and mail it in. The web site design will make this... difficult. The good news is that I emailed the company about all the issues I ran into with the registration page and got a great reply the same day. Hopefully the problems will have already been addressed by the time you read this review, but I'd give it a month or two from the date of this post, just in case. The saw itself cuts wood like a hot knife through butter. It is way louder than I expected, given it is an electric motor, so you'll still be wise to use ear protection (along with eye, head, and hand protection). But then again, it is silent when not actually cutting wood. It is also heavier than I expected. However, neither of these issues is a big deal if you are already comfortable with using gas chain saws.I haven't needed to use the built-in chain sharpener, but hopefully this will be as good an idea as it sounds. After I've used this for a few hours and I'm fully confident with its reliability, I'll probably go ahead and purchase spare parts. That increases the cost a bit, but not having to make expensive trips to have someone else do motor maintenance and chain sharpening will quickly recoup those costs. At this point, I'd highly recommend this chainsaw.----------------------------Follow-up: I'd definitely stick by my five-star review. I've used this saw many times now, making hundreds of cuts, and I'm still on all the original parts. This is a pretty amazing saw, especially compared to the multiple gas saws I've owned. If you doubt the power of electric motors, take a look at how some Tesla models are blowing away their non-electric counterparts at the track. Add RELIABILITY into the mix, and there is no comparison. If you use a chainsaw frequently, there may be diminishing returns against the inconveniences of having to run cords, have a live outlet or generator available, etc. just for picking it up to cut a couple of limbs. But if you have infrequent, larger jobs, it is great. One last note. If you are thinking about getting a spare chain, sharpening stone, bar, and drive sprocket, you'll be approaching the price of the entire saw. Consider getting another saw and you'll have instant spares AND two working saws between replacing parts.

Excellent chain saw
I cut down 12 twenty-five foot spruce trees and also cut all their branches off with the chain that came with the saw. Some of the trunks had two-foot diameters. The saw had lots of power, cut well and performed flawlessly, and I could not be happier with this purchase. I highly recommend this saw for anybody who wants to have an electric chain saw.

unusable out of the box
This is my first power tool I have purchased through Amazon. I have been hesitant for the very reason I am rating this a 1/5 - it arrived with an issue that makes it unusable. When i first opened the box and began inspecting the saw the cap twisted off with a lot of effort. When i tired to put it back on it did not want to go on. My photos show why - somebody must have cross-threaded it with a lot of force. Even when i carefully thread it perfectly, the cap only goes on half way. Seems like a silly little issue, but having oil constantly dripping all over would not be safe. I waited a long time for this tool to arrive and now I am expecting a lot of effort and waiting on my part to resolve this.

Really good product
I've used a couple of electric chain saws before and this one is at least as good, and probably better than all of them. It is quite quiet for a chain saw, it cut well, and the stop is almost instantaneous. It is true when they say it is quite balanced - I never felt like I had to compensate one way or the other when operating it. First job with it, I had to cut through a tangle of roots so I would frequently end up cutting through hidden layers of dirt, clay and rocks. The blade got dull pretty quickly but that would be expected of any blade in the circumstances. The auto sharpener came in handy. That feature worked pretty well - don't think it is as good as by hand but it sure is A LOT quicker and was all I needed.

Very nice well built saw
Good heavily built unit, easy to set up out of the box. Comes with a great step by step instructional sheet. Like other reviewers RED and understand the instructions! !Comes with small bottle of chain oil. The instructional sheet guides you to take the cover off and directs you how to adjust the chain tension and reinstall the cover. This is easy to do and important to feel comfortable with as one needs to regularly take this cover off to clean the area of saw dust and debrisMy first use today... Used to limb a tree... cut through a ten inch limb like butter, and it operates nice and quite. The chain sharpening feature looks interesting, will update review later when I use same for the first time.First impressions are great, have used several gas saws before, always a major pain to start and maintain, also have used a borrowed Remington electric, which was noisy, extremely hard to clean, always dull and did not cut worth a dam, so this unit does impressHave a yard with 50 trees so there is always a cutting project, expect this little saw to work great for me. Shipping was fast, arrived ahead of expected delivery date!

Oregon chain saw
There are pros and cons: First the pro, this chainsaw is reasonably easy to use and certainly cuts well. Now the cons: The chain is continually looseninng. I used it for cutting a tall lilac hedge and I soon found out it should not be used to cut small branches as they catch on the chain and quickly cause the chain to loosen and pop off. If I don't tighten it when it gets loose the chain pops off and has to be reiinstalled on the sprocket and in the slot of the bar. I had an older chainsaw with the same design for tightening the chain. I don't know if all chainsaws have this problem but it certainly is a hindrance in working with the saw.
