Mixed feelings about this book.
Low Four stars simply because some of the letters I disagree with what the author has to share. In fact, I felt strongly enough about some of what she said that I didn't pass it on to my son as I anticipated. I love the idea of the book and I love that she took photos to go along with each letter. I love many of her short little essays.Essentially this book has a photo on the left hand side of the spread and then on the right hand side it has a short right up about what adult thing she wanted her child to know about as they left her home into the big world. For example: T is for Taxes. Pay them and then a short right up about it. The pictures are similar to what you will see on the cover of the book.My thought was to take this book as a starting point and add some of my own points in the margins to go with the letters. P for Pray always. etc. F for friendship. However. S, I believe is the letter that gave me problems. I would have preferred a more conservative view. There were a few other letters that also didn't reflect the values we raised our children with so decided to forgo giving this book to my children.Sadly, this is the type of thing that is a great idea and you might think 'oh I can do that' but unless you are organized enough to really make your own book, this might be a great starting point for you.

Parents and gift-givers beware
There are alot of great topics covered in this book, but as a parent who believes sex isn't something that young men or women should just go out and "do" whenever their hormones tell them to, I gave it 3 stars. I literally was thumbing through the first half of the book and really liking what I was reading until I read the S page. Really careless of the author and publisher to suggest such a thing. Sex isn't just a physical act that young people need to practice. The worst thing is this book has undoubtedly been given as a graduation gift to many 18 and 22 year olds by people who haven't taken the time to read it.

I love this book
I gave this as part of a gift for a friends son who was graduating High School. I love this book. It is humorous and insightful. And the text is short enough to get the point across and keep their interest. I hope it gives him something to think about. :) Every kid should have this.

S is for Sex
Great book. I gave it to my friend’s son for a graduation present. Not crazy about S for sex page though, especially for a teenager. I’m far from a prude, but really couldn’t bring myself to recommend casual sex to a teenage boy. I ended up covering that page with a note about reading it when he gets older.

Great little book for the high school graduate going off ...
Great little book for the high school graduate going off to college. Not a lot of new eye opening material, but sometimes things sink in morewith the kids if it isn't coming from their parents -- even thought it's the same info and advice! Definitely worth picking up and leaving in yourchild's door room after move in day!

Questionable Faith, Morals, & Values
I found a few offensive comments that I would not want given as advice to my children.I would never give Copaken's advice about funerals: "...don't you dare say, 'He's in a better place. Are you kidding? He's not. He's dead."And then there is the "S is for Sex" page: "You do not, contrary to what you might have heard in health class, have to be in love with someone to have sex with them. You should at least like them enough to share an experience of such intimacy. Once you find a willing partner who fits this description, by all means, go for it. Have sex as often as you like."My faith, as well as my morals and values, are very different from this author's in some significant ways. I share this so that others who feel as I do can avoid making the same mistake of ordering this book and then having to return it.
