What's the size difference between 24 months and 2T?

not too much but the 2T will be slightly bigger so if your child is on the slender side 24 months would be better. 24 months would more likely fit 18-24 month kids. a 2T would fit 2-3 yr Olds better

Wont the raw edges fray overtime? Seems to me they'd shorten the lifespan of the shirts.

They have stitching just above the edges so they do roll a bit which is annoying but they're still intact after half a year so far

Can anyone compare these to a 2t size in carter's (after washing and drying)? are they about the same, smaller, etc? thanks!

They definitely shrink over time. I’ve bought several of these shirts and some were worn way more than others. Same sized shirts were all different sizes based on how many times they were washed and dried. They actually shrink a LOT. I also wash all my clothes in cold water and low heat. I will still buy these shirts, but now I hang dry them.
