At only 1.6 ounces, it tucks away as inconspicuously as a few extra dry flies but comes out swinging when a high-alpine trout hits your line. Designer Alan Folts of Melbourne, Florida created the custom knife that was to become the Biwa after weathering pressure from his minimalist hunting friends to create a do-it-all hunting knife that weighs as little as possible. Named after a species of Japanese trout, the Biwa hits the mark.The long distal taper on the satin-finished blade is a powerhouse for paring, capping, and more. Review: Nice little pocket paring knife - For the longest time I’ve been trying to add a fixed blade knife to my on-body EDC. I’ve tried several, in several different carry positions. So far, this one is the best I’ve come up with. It’s short enough to fit in a front pocket (where I carry it) but probably too long for neck carry. The sheath that come with it isn’t very good, or else you could probably carry it on your belt. About the sheath… I replaced the one that came with it, with a kydex one I made at home. It’s not pretty, but it’s better than the original. There’s a version of this knife that comes with a leather sheath; that would probably be the one to buy. Mostly I use the knife for food prep, or eating lunch on the go. The blade shape is perfect for that task. I don’t think it would be a good defensive blade; it’s too small for that. It would also be pretty good at many other light-duty EDC tasks. It’s a good knife, from a well-known company, at a good price. Definitely worth your consideration.

**Q: Can you wear it on a belt ?**
A: It has a belt clip, but I don’t think it will be good to wear on belt.  Reasoning the clip mounts at the very bottom of the sheath. Or it could be side mounted.  Hope that helps

**Q: Can this be mounted horizontally as well as vertically on a belt? Some say yes some are saying no**

This seems like it would be a great bird and trout knife - even good for gutting a deer, but I bought it for my wife to use as a letter opener. She loves it.
