Works PERFECTLY, bus powered, Automatic RS-485 Transmit enable, low latency
I couldn't ask for more, this thing works great! I needed to send some commands to an RS-485 peripheral to provision it, and it worked perfectly. Its totally bus powered (but provides option for external 7-9vdc power on the RS-485 side). The most important thing when using RS-485 half duplex is fast control of the DE (driver enable) line. This thing handles it automatically and perfectly. Able to send RS-485 commands via terminal and when not sending it releases the transmit line quickly to switch back to receive (<1ms).I was originally contemplating putting one of these together out of a RS-485 transceiver IC, and piddling some TTL stuff together to handle the DE line switching, but for this price, I couldn't justify spending the time building it even if the components were free and sitting on the shelf.A good RS232-485 converter is a handy thing to have in your toolbox for debugging if you work with any RS-485 devices, and this one is well built and super easy to use (it even came with a phoenix style screw terminal block, lol)

Worked like a charm
I just connected the 2 wires TX Rx and started configuring my devices.

It Works
Try a NULL modem at one end of the RS232. If you use these to extend your RS232 range, you may have to use a NULL modem, depending on the application of your devices DTE or DCE.

Ok for verifying communications
I bought this to use with Modscan32 and CAS Modbus scanner. This device needs the RTS/DTR signals enabled in order to read more than a couple of modbus registers at a time. Modscan32 allows this - CAS Modbus scanner does not. Also, I could not get it to work at all if 120 ohm termination resistors were installed. I've bought a number of these inexpensive devices and most of them have this same issue. I would recommend looking for the CH340 USB version on Amazon which is a bit less expensive and works quite a bit better as it gets power from the USB port.

Order for testing on work project
Packed well. Shipped as or better than expected. Trying to make work on 485 converting to 232 with Keyspan to usb. Experimenting so can't speak to anything but appearance. Seems like good quality. Will update if I can get project working. I give 5 stars based on this in mind.

Works great
This works very similar to the B&B electronics 232 to 485 converter.Operates as expected in the detachable pen outboard is an improvement over the B&B because if the screws strip out or the connector breaks you can just replace it with a d-sub 9 pin out termination block or just a serial cable cut off.

Now we're talking...
Works just as-advertised. Was concerned the self-powered feature might not work as hoped since my RS-232 connection only has 3 wires (transmit, receive, and ground) but it worked perfectly (tested at 38.4k baud). Took it apart and it seemed to be well-built (no extraneous wires and clean solder joints).
