Outstanding compact blu-ray player
I bought this model because it is compact (7"x7'x1") and can stand on its side, thus enabling me to fit it into a small space. I have only used it as a playback device and find it excellent. My only complainty is that Toshiba doesn't include more than the most rudimentary user's manual. They do provide a very detailed online pdf version, but users hgave to find that out for themselves, as the Toshiba website doesn't point users to it. Also: Toshiba won't let user register the warranty, another downer.

A very sad product - Avoid!!!
I am revising my previous review. At first, I was deeply impressed by the product. There was no need for all the frills that come with this as I have an Ultra 4K large screen TV. I just wanted a "blow me out of the water" picture and sound quality. I purchased this unit and a Blu-Ray from Amazon and the picture and sound exceeded my expectations! The remote did not have back-lighting which was disappointing. After one month, the device died. I called Toshiba tech support. Sadly, the tech had the thickest accent. It was difficult to understand him or his English. Even sadder was the fact that the tech could only offer a link to a website to file a claim for a refund check. No trouble shooting at all. Toshiba should be hugely embarrassed about producing a product and one month later, it becomes "recycled land fill". Too bad it died so quickly. What a great picture it produced.I am so glad I bought this through Amazon. Amazon took care of me but the customer service rep explained to me that the replacement options were limited as they did not sell it directly to me (not sold by Amazon). A lesson learned. I am hugely happy with Amazon and how they handled this issue.

Slow and hard to use remote control
This is a nice shiny BlueRay Player though it is a little thicker (taller) than most players. The slot load feature is extremely hard to find and this is one unit that offered it. Unfortunately, this player is very slow in powering on/off, and in responding to the remote. In fact, it was kind of a game to see if you could get the remote to work. This Toshiba player required an online account to be created in order access online Internet streaming content. We ended up returning the Toshiba player. We were unable to find any other player that offered the vertical mount slot-load feature, so we opted for the Sony BDPS5500 Sony BDPS5500 3D Blu-Ray Player with Wi-Fi (2015 Model) from a local supplier due to time constraints for getting these installed in our classrooms. The Sony unit did not require an account to access online Internet streaming content.

bought this unit so I could mount it behind my TV for that "clean wall" look. Works okay, but is a bit slow and the remote is weak; it takes a few times mashing the buttons to get it to respond.

Setup is buggy but good product after that
Setup took longer than i expected the onscreen keyboard was not stndardized to a format depending on what you were doing it would be alphabetical one time and then the next screen it would be in qwerty format. Once getting past the setup everythng runs smoothly it plays movies very well and with better detail than i have seen on any other bluray player. Streaming has also proved to not be an issue it loads very fast and continues to play through with no buffering on my slow internet connection of 2.3-2.5 mbps.

Nice Blu ray device
Nice Blu ray device, resolution is awesome! Love the option of the vertical position. Wish it contained m=ore apps like some of the popular streaming devices. Has only Netflix which is mostly popular.

Yay, a player that can be placed VERTICALLY!!
Love that I found this player that actually works on it's side!! It sits vertically on the narrow mantle of my fireplace behind my TV. Great setup without having to do fancy cable routing and finding a place to put a typical horizontal player. My only real ding on it is that it has the same issue as many other players where if it goes to sleep after being paused it loses its place in the movie, which is a real drag! Not worth losing a star though since my Samsung player in another room as the same issue.Note: I'm not using any of it's other features, since I have a Roku for the purpose of streaming media, etc.

Bad product, bad company
My recommendation is that you don't waste your time with this product, or with Toshiba, for that matter. It stopped reading discs about a week before the warranty was up. By the way, it was barely used. The only way to return it is to first deal with tech support. They said to buy a cleaner and update the firmware, which I did, but it took me a week to get the cleaner. Neither solution worked so I called back hoping to return it, but they say it's now past the warranty period. That's not how to treat customers. No more Toshiba for me.
