Does water collect inside the handle and then leak out during use?

No, there is not a problem with water collecting inside the handle. I've used these for years and never experienced water collecting at all.

Listing says 8" long. sodagirl says 5 7/8" that would make handle 2 1/8" long. that doesn't make sense. so how long is the probe?

broke within seconds

I took it out of the package and started to gently hand wash the cake tester. It broke within seconds. The head and stem are attached by a tiny solder joint.
