I love this item! A grown up kid gate, which looks right at home wherever you place it. It's pretty heavy duty and metal so it looks much better than the plastic versions. We have 2 standard poodles and after moving into a new home, decided we wanted to keep them downstairs so the first gate went at the top of the stairs. We have a nice landing so we felt it was safe. There are a number of ways to attach, including screws if you want to make it more permanent and I believe they are suggested on a stairway. We opted to not do that and just used the screw in pieces that are pressure mounted to the wall and have not had any problems with them loosening. The gate is set up with a main unit (the gate), and 3 add on pieces to fit into almost any size doorway/stairway. The extensions fit together with a metal rod placed at top and bottom, inserted into both the main piece and the extension, making it very secure. It is pretty self explanatory but the directions are easy to read and understand. If you measure your opening, it will tell you what size extensions you will need. There is a piece that keeps it from opening both ways (written on it "if this is placed at the top of the steps, this must face down" thereby not opening the gate down the steps and reducing the chance of tripping/falling). So the gate does not swing either direction, this may be an issue for some but we are used to it. I love that this gate is self closing so if my hands are full I'm not coming back to close it. It is easy to use one handed, yet would be difficult for a child to be able to open. At 36", it works well for larger dogs (mine would jump over anything shorter!) and good looking enough to place anywhere in your home. We like it well enough that we ordered two more and placed them on the two kitchen entry doors now that it is rainy season - keeping the dogs in the kitchen until they dry off (and hopefully keeping my carpeted areas cleaner!). We will probably take them down during the summer months as it is a bit of a pain to open a door every time you go into your kitchen. I would highly recommend!

We’ve been really happy with this gate. It was easy to install, feels very sturdy, and the foot pedal hands-free opening is a feature we use all the time. It swings smoothly, latches securely, and gives us peace of mind with our little ones. I also like that it looks much nicer than a typical baby gate and blends in well with our home. Definitely worth the purchase and I’d recommend it to anyone needing a reliable gate for kids or pets.

This is a great gate for either a baby or pet. I I have a 8 month, 70 lbs pittie, yes she is a big girl. We started out with a regular white plastic baby gate (the common ones for around $20) but even though she couldn't jump over it, she figured out a way to get over by unsing the wall and her own weight to balance over it. Once she learn that strategy, there was no stopping her. Another down side about the regular white plastic baby gate is that you have to jump over it, not so easy when you have groceries in your hands. Which takes me to the best part of the walk-thru baby gate. The door is able to stay open in order for you to keep walking though without having to keep opening it every single time, all you do is simply push it until you feel it lock, kind of what your car door does when opening it all the way, preventing it from closing on you. It has a great strong lock when you close it and the button on top that you use to push in order to open is super soft, so you push with your thumb and lift just a little. Very sturdy and easy to assemble *****caution: when you first open your new walk through bby gate you will see the door is NOT aligned evenly with the rest of the gate. When you open it you will see what I'm talking about, well don't worry and certainly do not try to pull them together, when you assemble it against the wall and begin to tight up your bolts to fit your desired area it will all come together and even on its own***** The assembly was super easy, and the best part is that it has multiple panels to add or removed inches to get the best fit, and you can save the rest in case you move or need to have a different area gate. Once positioned, you can start tightening the bolts evenly with the little tool provided for you (so no holes on your wall!!) and voila it is set. I love how great it looks, not cheap or flimsy. The color is great because it can match many different color schemes. I gave it all 5 stars because, it's easy to assemble, looks super nice, is much more sturdy than the white gate we use to have ( we had to put books on the side to make it tight and even then my puppy would always knock it down lol) and the door is just perfect, swing shut after you walk though reassuring you that your little love one, fur or no fur will be safe on the side you want them to be on. It's totally worth the money spent, because more than likely you will not need to purchase another gate for a long time!!

I love the look of the gate and the range of openings the gate will fit with the added extensions. I use the gate in a doorway where no extra extensions were needed to keep two puppies secure in a small room.. Some things you may need to consider. * This is not a gate you will move from room to room or opening to opening. * There will be a small threshold you will need to step over to travel through the gate. * Aligning the gate has been a bit of a challenge for me. There is a pin that secures the gate at the bottom, threshold piece that you pass through. There is also a pin at the locking device. The bottom pin is quite easy to line up, but the top pin requires the tightening of the tension screws to bring/squeeze opening so the pin fits into place. If I tightened too much, I could not open the gate. Too little, and the gate is easily opened. Any torque or small twist in the alignment of the gate in the doorway will mean that the bottom pin may align, but the top pin is off centered. It's a bit of wrangling, but I evenutally took an old collar and add it through the swinging gate and stationary part to add a little extra security. Doing this is quite easy and keeps the escape artists in when I'm away from home. Perhaps the use of levels would help with proper alignment, but with use the tension rods need to be tightened every so often, so the pins will likely be a little troublesome again. All in all I am really pleased with the gate, the functionality and the look and would recommend..

I now own four of these gates and I'm very pleased with my purchase of them. I started off with just two to test them out for a while in one room due to some of the negative reviews. I will say that from my experience with multiple gates is that this is a high quality product at a decent price considering that this is a metal unit that does not look as obtrusive in your home as many baby gates do. Installation: Take your time here and make sure to get it right. As noted in other reviews, your gate will come bowed out - this is so that it can maintain tension using only the bottom bar across. As you properly adjust it during installation, it will even out and become straight. After a few months - or anytime you notice that the gate is not functioning the way it should, you may need to take out the little wrench they include with purchase and make some minor adjustments. Mine have held up with minimal adjustments, even with a toddler that likes to stand on the bottom bars and shake at the gate at times. Use: My gates swing closed fairly well and consistently. If you let the gate go gently, it will not latch, but if you are walking though, and just let the gate swing behind you, it does a fine job of latching on it's own. There have been a few times when my gates have not been closing properly, but upon closer inspection, I just needed to make a few adjustments to bring the gate back into alignment. The latch mechanism has held up well to the tugging and pulling of a toddler without fear that the gate would open - that was one of the points I was nervous about in getting baby gates that would swing open. I have these gates installed in openings with a variety of widths, and in my opinion, when using all of the included extensions, you will probably also want to use the wall-mount hardware, as you can feel some give in it. I had it installed for months without it, and I never had a problem, but as my little crawler turned into a toddler, that then began putting more stress on the gates at times, I just feel better with the wall-mount hardware installed. The gate closing by itself can be loud, but this sound also helps you know that it has latched, as it sounds distinctly different if it fails to latch. If the volume is a problem during nap time and such, I would just gently close it by hand. I also really like the height to these gates. My little guy can climb on just about anything, but he can't make any headway to trying to climb over this gate. The one negative that I have experienced is that when he stands on the bottom bars, there is the chance of his little leg going through to the other side. I wish the bars were just a bit closer together, as he has gotten his leg stuck once and then he fell down with his leg up in it. It didn't do much more than frighten him, but it is a slight cause for concern. Overall, as far as baby gates go, I am very happy with this purchase, and have been adding to my collection of them as needed. They are sturdy, functional and stylish enough to not disturb the look of your room too much.

After reading the mixed reviews about this product, I ordered it with a great deal of trepidation. I can't express enough how happy I am with this product. I have a wider than normal separation between my family room and living room, and I needed to keep a lab mix puppy from wandering around the house, so I wanted a taller gate than the typical baby gate, something the puppy couldn't knock over or jump over, and a gate so that we could all get through easily rather than trying to step over it. I came home last night excited that my new gate was there and proceeded to put it together. I really don't understand the negative reviews about the directions and how hard it is to put together, because 1) you really don't even need the directions to put it together as it's super easy, and 2) I had the gate together and installed with no tools in less than a half hour, and I'm a 53 year old woman! The only part I had to look at on the directions was the order in which you tighten the suspension screws (bottom first, then top), and the panel set-up for my size opening. I also don't understand other comments about the gate being too narrow and clothes catching on the latch. After a few seconds learning how to open the gate (you need to slide the latch and then lift the gate up and away), none of my family had any problems getting through the opening, and we are not all skinny minnies! I also read comments about a tripping hazard over the bottom bar, and I don't get that either. Since you have to slide the latch and lift the gate to open and that opening is narrow, you are already slowed down to the point that you would certainly note to lift your feet 1" off the ground. If you have younger children, they probably would have difficulty getting through the gate without assistance. The gate is a powder coated bronze finish, and it looks super attractive installed. The gate does swing shut automatically, however, it does not "latch" shut...you must do that. If you have a reason that you need to leave the gate open, you would need to find some way to prop it open. So far, the gate has been very effective, it is sturdy, and it looks good, and there is no way the puppy can knock it over or push it open. I don't think an adult dog or a child would be able to knock it over either. The gate is attractive and serves its purpose. What more could you ask for? FYI, my opening was approximately 43-1/2" wide at the baseboards at the bottom of the gate, and about 45" wide at the top of the gate, so I used the main gate with the one long extension and one of the short extensions as shown on the directions. I certainly recommend this product to anyone looking for a tall and wide gate solution. Don't listen to the negative reviews.

I have a ton of experience in baby gates now thanks to my dogs.... I have two very rambunctious wiener dogs that need to be kept in their own room when I am at work. If they are allowed to roam free, nothing is off limits. In the wiener-room, they have a crate, a second bed, water and most importantly - tile flooring! They even rock out to samba music and jazz when I am not around... Now, I can leave them all day in their room and no surprises BUT if they break out of doggy jail, my carpet in the dining room is the promised land! I had a similar gate to this but it is about 4 years old and was used primarily outdoors so I wanted to keep it at the front door and have something nicer for their room since it leads into the common area - which still gives them a visual on the entire apartment. I bought a less expensive, plastic, tension-mounted gate and my boys were quick to work together to take that thing down. I bought and returned a wood gate - same reason. I figured out, if the tension mount portion is too cheap a plastic, one of my boys can unsrew it at the base! I put the old, rusty, metal gate up and it takes him about 2-3 days to unscrew one of the tension springs because it is super loose due to wear. I received this gate this week and it looks so much nicer than the old rusty one. Installed this quickly and like the one I am replacing it has nice metal parts and while the screw portion is made with a very rigid, heavy-duty plastic - all the other parts are a good quality metal. Since it is brand new, it is a little too tight/stiff for the monster to unscrew so the boys are safe in their room with no drama. If you want a cheap gate that you will only need for a year or so then go with the cheaper versions. Most people won't need a gate to last as long as I do. I grew up with super relaxed golden retrievers and never understood how important it is to set up a dog-land or provide them with a safe territory of their own, so I learned my lessons (plural because I am stubborn) the hard, expensive way. I cannot bring myself to crating them for the day, but when they have access to their crate, and have room to move around, free access to water and a wee-wee pad, they don't bark during the day and are better adjusted (my neighbors are thankful and everyone is less stressed). This gate is well worth the higher price point for quality and durability. If you are using for a larger pup, I would probably go with the more permanent mount and screw the sucker into the wall. I live in an apartment so I need a tension mount. I will upload pix soon. :) My two cents worth: I bought this with Amazon Prime for 54 bucks. You shouldn't need to spend more than 50-60 for a good sturdy gate. The 35 dollar ones are probably fine for kiddies as are typically not left unattended - right? (We all hope). For extra-wide doorways, this has two extensions and I have used extensions in the past with my older gate in my previous apartment, which had wheelchair-width doorways. This gate is identical in quality to my old one but there are more gaps that a super tiny pup might be able to squirm through - not a 17 lb wiener though. Feel free to ask any questions!

I own a rescue dog with severe separation anxiety--read: as soon as she loses sight of me she goes nutso and barks, whines, shakes, piddles, and poops wherever she can find carpet... don't ask me why it has to be carpet. In any case, we needed a way to restrict her access to said carpeted areas and this gate fits the bill PERFECTLY. It's super-easy to install. I had two kids and two dogs all over me while I set the thing up, and I managed to knock it out in less than 20 minutes. We ended up moving it from one area of the house to another, but (again) it was painless. I did not use the wall cups that came with the system since 1) I need to repaint most of the walls anyway and 2) I didn't want to do a bunch of drywall work to fix the wall after we remove the cups to paint. In spite of my frequent protests, my 4- and 6-year old girls hang on the thing all the time and it's budged maybe an inch or so from the desired location. No problem: just twist the screws on the sides to loosen the gate, move it to the correct spot, and - voila! - back in doggie containment business. All silliness aside, the gate has plenty of pros to outweigh the minor cons. Please keep in mind that I am using it to contain a dog and not a child. Pros: * Nice appearance * Assembly is almost self-explanatory * Good quality for the price (the thing is HEAVY... almost everything except for the locking latch is metal) * Easy to add expansion pieces (if needed) * If everything is level and adjusted properly, it locks pretty well Cons: * Noisy. It scares the heck out of my nervous little dog when the girls let the self-closing hinge slam behind them. * If the tension screws on the sides of the unit aren't adjusted correctly, the lock won't latch completely. Not a big deal for our household since the hinge is self-closing and my dog doesn't know how to open a door, but if you're using the gate to contain a child over the age of three it could be a major safety issue. I really do love this gate--I hope to buy another for the top floor of our house with the $$ I'd otherwise have spent on carpet cleaning products. ***7/10/2013 UPDATE**** Still use the gate, still love the gate... but I have noticed that the self-closing hinge isn't quite what it used to be. Mind you, we work this thing HARD, so that may be part of the problem. I haven't noticed any other hardware issues, and I would buy the gate again in a heartbeat. ***8/4/2014 UPDATE**** Still use the gate, bought another, and installed it this evening. Since my dog's mental issues have abated by about 2% over the past 2 years, so we decided that another gate was a good investment (i.e., she will probably always think of our carpeted areas as beige grass). After doing the requisite 50+ hours or research on other gate options, I came back to my beloved Summer Infant Multi-Use Deco Extra Tall Walk-Thru Gate, Bronze . I know that after about a year of heavy use, the springs will loosen, but the gate will still open and close smoothly and look better than most of the other gates I have seen online and in person.

It looks and works great! It was a simple installation, and was up in no time at all! It’s heavy and solid, and despite the long walk, was delivered right to my front door! It’s secure which was a big concern, and I am relying solely on pressure! I was looking for an attractive pressure gate, with security, height and an easy install… that’s exactly what I received! The auto shut was a bonus and it arrived quickly! Well worth the money! If my opinion changes, I will write an update, but for now, I am thoroughly pleased!

We installed this at the top of our stairs because we didn't want to drill into our balusters for our baby gate. The wood pieces are solid and don't appear as though they'll break easily. It's nice that there are essentially three ways to install this: 1) Use provided sticky back foam pieces to help secure plastic holder to baluster along with straps. 2) Use the straps to hold the plastic holder without peeling off the sticky back. 3) Drill the plastic holders into the baluster (which kind of defeats the purpose of no screws lol). Once you ratchet the plastic straps around the baluster, it's pretty secure. The only concern would be that the ratcheting system is also made of plastic, save for a few metal pins, so I would be concerned about longevity. But frankly speaking, you're probably not going to use it long enough to have them wear down or slip. All in all, solid unit, glad we didn't have to drill, would definitely recommend.
