I do two heavy duty washes(Frigidaire top loader, max fill washer), first in warm then second wash just prefolds on hot with a soak which extends my heavy wash cycle. I started running the first wash with Tide powder to line 4, second wash I do a hefty scoop of both the hard rock and the dirty diaper detergent. The first few times I noticed them coming out a little softer. Started drying on low for 60 minutes, then air drying to finish them off instead of just drying on high heat. I don’t think I’m ever changing this routine. I feel like it’s just the perfect combination. The diapers continue to come out softer, I know the hard water build up is being prevented, I just couldn’t be happier. I’m going back and washing the first prefold size and I’m seeing the results repeated. If you have hard water and know it (hello mineral deposits on your shower and faucets) this is a great product to look into. I also really love that it’s unscented. One of the things I hated about tide was the scent. Just screams hormone disrupters. The first few times you’re washing to get mineral build up out, you might have to include more detergent. I think I did a solid 3 or 4 scoops with a soak right away but then backed it down a bit. Great product, please don’t discontinue!! Update: now that I’ve gotten the minerals out, I’ve backed down the detergent even more for that second wash in hot… the enzymes can be a little strong once they get wet otherwise and can go after his skin. Or rinse more… want to make sure to get all the detergent out. Update: I’m now diapering my second child and using this detergent! Changed washing machines. I have a speed queen tc5. Love it! I do a quick rinse, a heavy duty wash set on warm and heavy soil with two scoops detergent. Then follow with a permanent press heavy soil warm water no detergent. Chefs kiss.
