Fun, interactive challenge activity for kids
Having thoroughly enjoyed the Autumn version of this brilliant series with my two small grandsons, I was delighted to get this i-SPY book on Winter. Packed full of facts and challenges, it’s a fantastic way to get children to engage with and understand the world around them. The overall aim is to collect points by spotting all the winter-related i-SPYs in the handy, pocket-sized book. These are divided into categories such as weather, night sky, garden, birds, Christmas, clothes, food and others. The kinds of things you have to spot range from icicles to a gritter lorry, from a full moon to fairy lights, from an evergreen tree to mistletoe, from tinsel to mince pies, and many more. Each spot earns points from 5 to 40, depending on how hard it is to find. A total 1000 points are up for grabs, and if you get them all, you can send off for a certificate and badge. What I love most about this book is the sheer amount of information it contains, as almost every spot, comes with a short, fact-filled paragraph. The pictures are bright and colorful too.The only aspect I’m not so keen on is the small size of the text and the occasional use of white text against a yellow background, which is hard to read. For £3.99 though, you really can’t go wrong.Note: If you are planning on doing this challenge with more than one child, you really need to get them a book each. Thanks for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful. Check out my Amazon profile page for more reviews of children’s books and puzzles and educational toys and games.

Fine.
I don't remember iSpy books being quite this basic, although I imagine if the idea is to keep kids occupied while they're out for a work it works well. But it wasn't quite the fact fest I was expecting.

A great alternative to a card for an occasion
I love these tuny books. My children prefer slightly larger ones and I guess it's partly due to the ease of handling it (these books are quite difficult to open completely to one page as they spring back into being closed far too easily). But for a cozy little party with a documentary on, a cup of cocoa and this book to point things out to each other, considering a grown-up is holding the book, these mini books are perfect. I particularly like them because they are raising awareness of the daily things and objects around us. There are always things to discuss and remember, so these work a treat on a rainy-rainy day.

i-SPY Winter
We have quite a few of these i-Spy books and they are great to have to hand when you're out walking. If you've not used one before the book is full of things that you might spot in winter from icy puddles (20 points) to roasted chestnuts (30 points). Each "spot" has a different points value and when you get 1000 points you can apply for a certificate at Collins website. There is a wide range of winter things in this book from wildlife to weather to lights. I did think they were pushing the theme a little bit by including the first spring flowers (crocus and daffodils) and pancakes for Shrove Tuesday. Technically Shrove Tuesday may usually occur in winter but it isn't really something that I associate with winter as a season.Overall though lots of good spots for around the house - hot water bottles and hot chocolate - and for when you're out walking on crisp winter days and evenings.

Another great I Spy book.
I was wondering what would be included in this Winter edition of the popular I Spy series of books, and the answer is all sorts. From Icy puddles to reindeer Christmas lights to turkey and everything in between. There is quite a bit of crossover with other books in the series if you own lots of them.Great fun for children and adults who've not grown up!
