What is the inside diameter of the pot and what is the height? I want to use it for water bath canning and want to make sure my canning rack will fit

The dimensions they give in the product description are misleading--they include the handles for the width and the height includes the lid and its handle as well. The diameter of the base of the pot is about 9.75", and the height to the lip is 9". The sides are straight.

How would it be on an open fire for camp cooking and heating?

haven't been camping in decades but... i'd say it is about the same as any other granite ware enameled pot, so it really should be fine if you don't leave it too long so it looses all liquid, but that is true of any pot. be careful and use pot holders. the handles are ok but not the most comfortable to grip when hot. these pots are lightweight and wash very easily and the lid fits most frying pans as well. happy camping. :)
