I have been working with fabrics of all types for well over 50 years, and am familiar with the manufacture of non-woven materials (have watched the process from start to finish in a local fabric making factory) and the processes used in making various items from cloth (both as a seamstress and selling linens in a major department store). To begin with, the "holes" are created by a process called ultrasonic quilting that has been used, largely with synthetic or synthetic blend fibers, since at least the 1970s. They are not actual holes, but are filled with the ultrasonicated material from which the masks are made. I also cut the mask apart and found that there are indeed five layers. The thickest are the innermost and outermost, but the three inside almost appear to be two, because meltblown fabric layers have a tendency to cling tightly to one another. This is actually a desirable thing in masks, since this makes the passage of air more convoluted and increases the probability of any particles passing through the mask to be caught before reaching the nose and mouth of the wearer. Thickness alone is not a guarantee of good quality. After researching the FDA data concerning the parent company and the performance of the masks, I’m sold. The fit in general is excellent, I just wish the ear loops were maybe a quarter inch longer, as I have a very wide face.I did not read that individual packaging was promised when I purchased the package of 30 masks, and frankly, since this is for personal use, I’m happier with that. We're putting enough excess waste into our landfills as it is, and I can keep them in my own reusable zipper bag until I use them. I'm so happy I found these on Amazon. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Inconsistent ear loop length, but when the size is right these are my favorite masks *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2022* I'm about to order these masks for the 6th time, and I thought it might be time to write a review. My family has been pretty cautious about the pandemic and even now, in fall of 2022, we're wearing masks in many public settings.This masks fit my face well (I'm a woman with a larger face/head) and they fit my husband well too (male with an average sized face/head). He does have a short beard and finds that after several hours, his beard pricks the fabric inside and makes it kind of scratchy/itchy against his skin - though I think this would probably happen with any non-cloth mask. I find that these seal well against my face, especially with the nose piece that you can bend to fit. My glasses fog less with these than they have with any other masks. We had a few ear loops break off of masks (maybe 3 or 4 times?), but that hasn't happened in several months so the craftsmanship may have improved now that the supplies are less hard to come by. I had 2 masks that started splitting at the chin, but again, the last several packages we've gotten have not had this issue.I've found that in every package, some masks have shorter ear loops than others. My husband and I prefer the longer ear loops - with these, I find that the mask is well-fitted against my face but doesn't pull my ears or dig into my skin. The shorter ear loops are very uncomfortable for me. When masks were hard to come by, I would suffer through the day with the poorly fitting masks and have a headache at night from the constant tension on my ears (though I still found that preferable to the alternative risk if I had gone without a mask). Now that masks are easier to come by, I don't bother wearing the ones with tight ear loops. It seems that in each package, the fit of the mask generally correlates with the color (the black ones might be tight and the gray and white ones fit better) but it's not consistent from package to package (sometimes it's the gray or white ones that are too tight).
