Q: how do you change anything with the led colors?

You can't change the colors, but you can change the lighting patterns by using the FN key in tandem with the keys 1-0 as well as the Ins key.

Q: Can the keyboard have one straight color throughout?

No the colors are exactly as you see in the pictures. You can change the pattern of the lights but you can't change the lights.

Q: What does the FN key do?

Fn changes between the different light modes and can adjust the speed/ brightness. It's also for shortcuts like opening up calculator or adjusting volume. Keyboard comes with an instruction book that shows the different Fn combos
