Ignore the 1-star reviews, as they are the typical ignorant rants against Islam and Muslims (and not relevant to this book, whatever your views). The Islamophobia Industry has been well documented by numerous individuals and think tanks. Nathan Lean sets out considerable evidence documenting and tracing this loose network of people who make huge profit from anti-Islam racism and who seek to demonize Muslims (almost a quarter of the world's population) to influence US domestic and foreign policy. Over $205 million profit was made by this industry between 2005 and 2013, so it's a lucrative business. Unfortunately, this industry is bad for our country: it increases bigotry and prejudice, affects the wisdom of our policy choices, and erodes the health of our democracy, which can only work if we have an informed population, not a deliberately misinformed one. Nathan Lean's book is easy to read, informative, and necessary. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fear is profitable... *by H***S on Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2016* In his book, The Islamophobia Industry: How The Right Manufactures Fear of Muslims, Nathan Lean writes of the concerted effort in the United States and Europe to castigate Muslims as monstrous, subhuman, and dangerous to the West. Lean writes of the various factions that comprise the Islamophobia industry which include politicians, media pundits, Israeli Zionists, paranoid nationalists, and xenophobes. However, he believes that beneath the rhetoric lies a common interest: profit. “This is about a concerted effort on the part of a small cabal of xenophobes to manufacture fear for personal gain” (Lean, 14). This book is well written, clear, and abundant of true-life examples that demonstrate the results of Islamophobia and the lives it ruins, or ends. Lean names names, quoting the words of Islamophobes at length. Much of what they say is truly sobering, if not outright terrifying. After reading the book, the reader should have several antidotes at her disposal to demonstrate to others the grave threat the Islamophobia industry poses to democracy, justice, and world stability. This book is also a call to a response. It names an evil, and should leave the reader with no other response than to take action. Not only are the lives and freedoms of millions of American Muslims at stake, the Islamophobia industry makes possible unjust and criminal United States military action abroad. Islamophobia is a threat to the entire world.
