Only thing we don't like - it is very quiet. We have another small fountain on our front porch and it makes a pleasant splashing sound as the water trickles down. I would imagine that the fountain is no more costly to run than a ceiling fan. We plug it in when we are on our deck and unplug it when we go inside and close the door to the deck. The manufacturer suggests using distilled water which we purchase by the gallon at out local supermarket. The water does not need to be changed, but added to the fountain due to evaporation. My wife put small pebbles on each level of the fountain in order to have a "babbling" sound. I’m happy with it overall. One thing that I can say is that the suction cups on the pump it itself that stays in the water has a hard time actually sticking and staying down. Which is a little bit frustrating because it floats up often and I have to constantly put my hand in the water and push it down.
