History of Ribbon Candy Ribbon candy is a traditional Christmas candy that goes back for centuries in Europe, though it is unclear exactly where the candy was first created. Confectioners developed the candy as a Christmas decoration for their shops, modeling the wavy form around the candy maker’s thumb. In the 1800’s mechanical crimpers were invented to shape the ribbons. Finger-like crimpers simulated the curl originally put into the candy by hand. A candy maker made the candy, another spun off a ribbon and fed it into a crimper which was then turned by hand. Finally, the curly ribbon was cut with scissors as it came down a small conveyor. Mechanical crimpers worked well, but the process was slow and very labor intensive. As demand increased for ribbon candy, it became clear that another way to make the candy had to be found. Until the 1940’s ribbon candy was never made on a large scale, because more sophisticated equipment was needed. A single spinning roll was developed and it was found that by very careful tending of the candy batch, the hand spinner could be eliminated and the automated machine could run faster. The big bottleneck was in having to cut the candy with scissors. An air activated automatic cutter was invented by Sevigny Candy of Hanover, MA, and is still in use today by F.B. Washburn Candy. Ribbon Candy became a Christmas tradition all over the New England area and has now spread throughout the country. Quality Candy Company recently acquired Sevigny's in 2019 in order to keep the brand alive and thriving!

Arrived in acceptable condition
A couple of them were broken but that's fine with me. I'm so glad that a new company purchased these so they will still be made. Also, I live very close to where they were shipped from and it was great that they had been stored in a dry environment. The ones I ordered a couple of years ago were manufactured and/or stored in a humid environment so they were not the right consistency.

Not what I expected, but if I had received it, I know the ribbon candy is awesome.
I ordered 3- 7 oz assorted flavor boxes, and received 3- 3 oz boxes. Can't seem to contact anyone to have them correct it. Disappointed, as these were for family gift giving.

Well packaged and appreciate this product being available again after being discontinued.
When you buy ribbon candy online, you should always buy it from this seller Quality Candy Company who manufactures it. It was so well wrapped in bubble wrap that very little was broken. This is a hard product to ship and have it stay whole due to it's nature of being thin ribbon candy. I'm thankful Quality Candy Company put ribbon candy back in production after the prior producer discontinued it. The flavor isn't quite the same as the FW Washburn brand, but it is pretty good and hopefully will improve as Quality Candy continues its growth. I will definitely be buying it again!

It is so so
Glad to find ribbon candy but it is not the normal holiday flavors. It is more of a fruity taste.

The consistency of the candy.
I absolutely love this candy! I'm not a big sweets eater but, when it comes to these I can eat an entire box myself! I just wish they would add more of the red cinnamon candy. It's the best. They came a little bit broken up. Would have been disappointed if I was going to use them as a decoration.

Awful product don't waste the only
This product came in dust. The candy was all broken and looked. It came so broken it was in dust. This company should just give it up. I want Mt money back and not sure how to get it back. A waste of good money.
