Can I just add this to water and drink it?  I'm a little apprehensive after reading about this in the pill form.

I do exactly that 3 or 4 times a day and being diabetic it helps me with slowing meal digestion. I bought some plastic cups and spoons at Sam's club because this stuff can be a pain to wash out of cups and you should not run it down the drain as it will stick to the pipes. I only need one new cup and spoon each day and keep my jar by the sink. I drink it about 15 minutes before each meal (not with medications or vitamins) and find that works fine. I measure out the powder, fill with cool water which slows gelling, stir and drink immediately then fill the cup again, swirl and drink that. This method allows the gel to form a "pancake" in the bottom of my stomach. I also have mixed it into foods quite well but you have to be careful not to overdo it because it can get too thick. I also take my 4th dose in the evening prior to my usual few squares of dark chocolate just as a precaution.

The ad says $1.49/pound.  How can that be?  The product is $11.49 for 8oz.

There is obviously an error in the system. For some reason, Amazon is calculating this item as 8 pounds instead of 8 ounces. It is indeed, however, 8 ounces, as it clearly states in the title, and that you can see in the image. We hope this clarifies the situation. Thanks.
