You have to visible run the wires. While the pole is hollow it is not wide enough for the ports.

Q: do they come in packs of 2 or do i have to order 2?

It literally says "2-pack" please read.

Q: How sturdy would this be on carpet?

These are heavy and very well-made. Unless it’s a really plush carpet I wouldn’t have any issue putting these Stands on carpet.
