U-N-T-A-N-G-L-I-N-G THE CONFUSION.... Made in China
Ok. After reading the reviews I wasn't sure what to do. Like many others I am SICK of the cheap expensive red plastic gas cans with the terrible snouts that don't work. So I headed to the reviews about this Justrite 2 gal can. I didn't need a big 5 gal size, and this 2 gal was right for me...manageable & not heavy when filled with gasoline. At the time I bought this, there were only two reviews. One was 5 star, the other 1 star. How do you decide from two extreme positions?? I agree with the 1 star rating reviewer as I do NOT want to buy a China product and get a substandard product. Shoot, I do not even want to buy from china period because I would rather support other USA citizens with my loyalty and money. But there are two things that 1 star review brought up: 1. China made means usually a Substandard product. Unfortunately I cannot find any fault or cheapness in this can. It's tough, well made, powder coating paint is great and the gas seals are flawless. 2. The reviewer claimed the ad description claims to say the can is made in USA. I looked carefully and maybe they changed the description in the fews months when he did his review, but I do NOT see a claim of USA made. Instead, I do see the statement..."The company, founded in 1906, is headquartered in Des Plaines, IL." In other words, an American company Justrite outsourced this 2gal blue can to China and didn't tell us made in China,... nor did they say made in USA either. They just got us thinking USA. I do think that every product should have a country of origin so we know as consumers where it was made. I do think this can's description is misleading to tout the company being US based almost as if implying this can is made in the US then not really saying but just implying it. That is marketing misdirection... and a form of deception. This happens a lot these days & I have to read things very carefully to pin down country of manufacture and not just look where the company headquarters are located. Fortunately we can still share our reviews freely with each other,...but for how long I wonder. So bottom line, I have to give it 5 stars. Built like a tank. Given the cheap labor in China this can would be more fairly priced about 30$ for this 2 gal size. But @ 56 & free ship it's actually priced MORE than the larger Justrite 5 gal size I just bot from amazon.com. One last note: Amazon gave 5-6 diff vendors offering this item. But I intentionally bot from Amazon.com & not one of the competing vendors. Sometimes outside vendors are hard to deal with in case of return (as other reviewers of similar cans indicated) so I bot from in-house Amazon for best customer service. BOTT LINE: great can, convenient size, strong spring loaded fill cap opens 3/4 (safety feature). I just temporarily block it open with a wooden wedge if I need to keep it open for filling. Top quality, easy pour, high price, yes made in China. EARNS 5-STARS.

I absolutely love this gas can
For something that seems like such a simple and utilitarian item, upgrading to an all-metal type 2 gas can is one of the most satisfying purchases I recall making recently. Every single time I pull this thing out to fill it I'm just delighted by its effectiveness. It's sturdy, never spills a drop of gas, stands upright and lets me insert the autofill nozzle from the gas pump and shuts off when it hits 5 gallons just like filling a car. If you do anything where you regularly need gas I can't tell you how happy you will be, just go ahead and buy it you will not regret the extra money compared to all the wasteful plastic ones you've probably seen come and go over the years. I can't believe I'm raving about a gas can but it is really really a quality item.

Excellent gas can - very well made
This is an excellent and safe storage can. It is well built and all metal. As required by the Type II standards it has one opening (spout) for pouring and one for filling. This relives you from the chore of unscrewing a spout (often with loose parts) in order to fill it or pour used fuel back in. I use mine to store gas/oil mix for my weed trimmer. It works well and the squeeze trigger lets me easily fill the small tank on the trimmer without rick of overflows. The squeeze trigger gives you fine control of the flow - this is pretty amazing for a gas can and is a big big safety feature. The fill opening has a VERY strong spring on it (good for safety in a fire situation) and it can be a bit of a chore to hold that open when wrangling the trimmer to pour unused gas back into the can. I need to get a funnel which might make this easier. Filling the can at the gas station is not difficult and the stiff spring is not a problem. There is a small amount of assembly required to mount the spout to the body of the can. Follow the instructions and you won't have any trouble. Another big plus is the 10 year warranty on this can. Yes there are cheaper cans out there, but not better ones. I keep the can outside, away from my house in a large plastic bin to protect it from the weather. Please, NEVER keep gas inside your house or garage. It's just too dangerous and you just can't know what might happen to that can when you are not around. An old boss of mine lost her home to fire when gas spilled in the garage and was ignited by the water heater. A bicycle fell and overturned the gas can which slowly leaked.

Safe gas can
Very nice & safe gasoline container. Watch when filling it as the filter screen makes it had to see how much gas your putting in the can. Great can.

Good, sturdy can; avoid plastic ones
Rather pricey for a gas can, but I guess that you get what you pay for. I had a similar steel but non-safety gas can and when the plastic filler spout broke I couldn't get a replacement spout. Bought a cheap plastic gas can which had a rigid spout that must be telescoped to pour--it was a total disaster; spilled gas whenever I tried to use it. Kind of scary, and I was sure relieved when I got to throw it in the trash. This Justrite is a solid, sturdy can that won't turn over in the car trunk or pickup bed. I haven't actually used it myself to fill the mower tank but my grandson tells me that it works just fine. The only fault is: you almost need an assistant to help fill it at the gas station. The filler neck has a spring loaded, hinged cap and the spring is so strong that you pretty well need two hands, one to open the cap and the other to keep the can from sliding or rotating, plus a third hand to operate the gas pump nozzle. Or, you can use your foot to jam the can against your vehicle tire to hold the can in place. The can also has a lovely paint job. I sort of dithered between giving it four or five stars, but I think that an item should have NO faults to merit five stars. Someone wrote that the can is made in China, but my can was made in Mattoon, IL. One more thing: I went to my local hardware store and bought a rubber stopper to keep dirt and insects out of the pouring spout.

Great Fuel Can
I have bought several of these over the years replacing my plastic fuel cans. These seem to be made with quality materials and should last for many years. They are mostly a no spill design which makes them great to transport the fuel in the back of the truck. They don't tip over as easily as most of the plastic cans. Very clean and easy to pour the fuel out of the can. There is two qualities of this can. You do not want the cheaper can with the plastic on the pour spout. The only real negative that I have is that these cans have gone way up in price over the past few years...Oh, I almost forgot...I had had one of the cans that was missing a screw when it was delivered to me, so I called customer service. They shipped me a new screw right away. I was surprised at how quick and friendly the service was when I contacted them. I own 3 of these cans and will be buying a few more in the future.

Best gas can I've owned in over 35 years
Gas cans have been pretty terrible ever since the EPA got involved. I have wasted more gas from the "new and improved" EPA cans that regularly dribble and leak when filling up the lawnmower than I ever lost from my old boyhood lawnmowing metal gas can that had an open spout that vented straight into the air. And THIS particular gas can bests them all. It is incredibly sturdy, and very easy to use. No more fiddling with plastic caps that cut your fingers and never fully open nor close, or with spouts that force you to hold the can in awkward positions in order to pour the fuel. The one-hand operated, spring-loaded cap, along with the flexible spout, makes this an absolute breeze to vent and to pour. It fills *very* fast, and yet it is so easy control that I haven't wasted a drop since buying it. After my second use of this can, I loaded up my collection of plastic gas cans and took them to the dump.
