It provides added security to your home by securing your door to its jamb and includes a tamper-resistant shutter guard to deter unwanted entry by intruders. Constructed of diecast metal with a brass-colored finish, this single cylinder deadbolt is strong, made of high-quality materials and durable, giving you peace of mind that your home will remain protected. This single cylinder deadlock is a surface-mounted, cross-bolt locking device which can be mounted to 1-3/8 inch to 2-3/8 inch thick, wood or metal doors – on the inside or outside of left- or right-hinged doors. The lock kit includes an angled strike, a rim cylinder, two keys (keyed differently, but also available keyed alike), a cylinder trim ring, fasteners, a mounting plate, easy-to-install instructions and a tamper-resistant shutter guard. This lock requires a 1-1/4 inch hole and uses Segal keyway. Installation tip: Snap-off or cut-off end sections of tailpiece as needed, if it is too long for your door. Having the tailpiece too long can negatively affect the performance of the lock. Use pliers to snap-off, a hacksaw or small disk to cut-off, and a file to remove sharp edges and burrs.

**Q: What is the diameter of the hole I need to drill in the door to mount this?**
A: the instructions indicate that you are to drill an inch and one quarter hole in the door.

**Q: Does one need to install the outside key entry component, or can it be used as an inside only night latch?**
A: Yes, instructions are provided for both configurations, inside security latch, or deadbolt style operation.  I used both configurations. Deadbolt for front door, and security latch for inside door to garage.  If using as high security use be sure to use long screws, ones included not long enough to reach internal wall studs for added strength.  Door frame itself not strong enough for high security.

**Q: Can this lock be used on either a left or a right hinged door?**
A: Yes.  I've mounted it both ways.

**Q: What the is minimum thickness of door this lock will work for?**
