The Dictionary of Demons starts with a simple premise: names have power. In medieval and Renaissance Europe, it was believed that speaking a demon's true name could summon it, compel it, and bind it. Occult scholar Michelle Belanger has compiled the most complete compendium of demonic names available anywhere, using both notorious and obscure sources from the Western grimoiric tradition. Presented alphabetically from Aariel to Zynextyur, more than 1,500 demons are introduced, explored, and cross-referenced by theme and elemental or planetary correspondence. This meticulously researched reference work features fascinating short articles on demonology and a wealth of woodcuts, etchings, and paintings depicting demons through the ages. Review: Very interesting read. :) - This book was so extensive and thorough on all the things I was looking for. I'm not an expert by any means but it has everything I was looking for at the time so it was great 👍 Review: Excellent resource - There is not a lot to say about this fantastic book that has not already been said. I have been collecting books lately about demons to help me in my writing, and this is a great resource. I haven't read it front to back, but I'm sure that was not what the writer intended for you to do. I have flipped through it quite a lot, and when I catch a name that sounds interesting I read that article. Most entries do recommend others to read to further round out your knowledge of that particular demon. So before you know it you've been browsing this for an hour. My only problem is, as mentioned in some other reviews, this book pretty much sticks only to demons with proper names. There are a few entries in regards to authors of demonic lore as well as important books in demonic history (The author mentions this in the introduction.) I'll keep this short and sweet and say I highly recommend this. Whether you believe in this sort of thing or not, it is incredibly interesting.

This book earns instant status as canon in the study of Demonology and the Occult and I highly highly recommend you buy it now
this book is kick ass. it should become the next Necromincom or whatever that one that didn't exist but after over a century of existance it still does and man can it be pricey. Regardless, this book is an impressive piece of work and my compliments to the author, editors and publishers. I was a history major and I love to write on top of that. These days you rarely see the melding of english being used correctly throughout, proper grammar and proper use of our language to discuss just about evrey demon and related tradesperonnel that you can imagine. Very well researched, also put together and some one else finishes it off. Get it, I can guarantee you'll be using it sooner than you think. Thanks so much, glad to see you home safely. I'm headed back home now. thanks

Kulenbuchen!
Whoa!! Bought it for no reason cause it was listed as an item often bought with the Grimorium Verum- itself something I purchased as not knowing what it was. Purposely read nothing about either one before I ordered it. Totally. Impressed. Ms. Belanger looks a little, um, odd (read:hilarious) and some people (at least me) might find it off-putting that she's a "vampire", but she did a Godsdamned excellent job on this joker right here. Serious must buy for anybody with an interest in the subject. The entries provide a nice amount of info, and it's not written by someone with obvious stikindabut syndrome- meaning that it's pretty readable for being an encyclopedia. If nothing else you'll probably find some interesting stuff to follow up on, at least as a beginner. Mega impressed, and I'm super cereal about that.

Excellent Resource...
I like Michelle Belanger's other works too, and this is no less thorough. She went to a lot of trouble to make this a great book, to tell as much as possible of the attributes of each of more than 1,500 demons. I am a demonolator, and this book is more than helpful. I have spoken to over 100 demons since getting this book, and every one of them has answered me politely-- and of course I take a respectful approach to them. I think demons are very misunderstood. The pictures, woodcuts etc. in this book are also excellent. If you somehow need to know the names of a lot of demons, for whatever reason, this is a great resource material. Thanks Michelle, for another great book!

Extensive
This book is both interesting and extensive in its scope of names of the damned presented within it. There are also great little extras included for extra reading such as "The Hordes of Hell", "Nine-Tenths of the Law", "The Ineffable Name", ... to name a few. Michelle Belanger has included some great lithographs, seals and images throughout the text. As a practicing occultist for the past thirty three years, although I am more of an Qabalistic Angelologist & Magician, I am happy to have this book "The Dictionary of Demons - Names of the Damned" in my rather extensive occult library. Even if you are someone who doesn't work Magick or into Demons, this book would also be a great addition to the lounge room table as a great talking point amongst friends and family alike. The price for this book from Amazon was not only affordable but also what I would call cheap for a book with this amount of information included within it. I have spent a lot more money for books with similar amounts of information within. A great book at a fantastically, great price.

Amazing work!
The Dictionary of Demons: Names of the Damned by Michelle Belanger is one of the best detailed works of its kind. It lays out in an easy to follow guide on the infernal names of demons and the art and images are amazing. The side articles are both informative and precisely placed, offering additional facts on demonology from medieval and Renaissance Europe, without breaking up the flow of the primary content of the tome. A very hefty 384 page volume, it is a must have on the subject for anyone's library on religion, the paranormal and the macabre. I highly recommend this book as one of the best to be written on the subject! Corvis Nocturnum Author of: Embracing the Darkness; Understanding Dark Subcultures, and most recently, Allure Of The Vampire; Our Sexual Attraction To The Undead.

Very Intriguing
This book has alot of information and the author does very well with sourcing her information. It really makes you realize that things aren't as black and white as they seem. I definitely learned some interesting things about these entities as far as some of their history. This book is not fear based which is awesome and its a go to book for information on demons along with sone interesting facts on the origins of modern ideas. This book doesn't have anything on calling, binding or excorsising spirits so you will have to get something separate from this.

Great book!
Before purchasing this book I did a lot of research on Michelle Belanger and one of the things I admire the most is the hard work she puts into her own research and for that reason alone I knew it would be worth the purchase. I wasn’t disappointed it’s a great book for my collection.
