Samuel Johnson famously said that: “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life.” London’s remarkable history, architecture, landmarks, streets, style, cool, swagger, and stalwart residents are pictured in hundreds of compelling photographs sourced from a wide array of archives around the world. London is a vast sprawling metropolis, constantly evolving and growing, yet throughout its complex past and shifting present, the humor, unique character, and bulldog spirit of the people have stayed constant . This book salutes all those Londoners, their city, and its history. In addition to the wealth of images included in this book, many previously unpublished , London’s history is told through hundreds of quotations, lively essays, and references from key movies, books, and records . From Victorian London to the Swinging ’60s; from the Battle of Britain to Punk; from the Festival of Britain to the 2012 Olympics; from the foggy cobbled streets to the architectural masterpieces of the millennium; from rough pubs to private drinking clubs; from royal weddings to raves, from the charm of the East End to the wonders of Westminster; from Chelsea girls to Hoxton hipsters; from the power to glory: in page after page of stunning photographs, reproduced big and bold like the city itself, London at last gets the photographic tribute it deserves . Photographs by: Slim Aarons, Eve Arnold, David Bailey, Cecil Beaton, Bill Brandt, Alvin Langdon Coburn, Anton Corbijn, Terence Donovan, Roger Fenton, Bert Hardy, Evelyn Hofer, Frank Horvat, Tony Ray-Jones, Nadav Kander, Roger Mayne, Linda McCartney, Don McCullin, Norman Parkinson, Martin Parr, Rankin, Lord Snowdon, William Henry Fox Talbot, Juergen Teller, Mario Testino, Wolfgang Tillmans , and many, many others. Review: Cheerio - Beautiful. Loads of interesting facts about London. Great photos. Review: Great book to display after a trip to London - I bought this after visiting London and really like it. It’s a substantial size and looks great displayed on a bookshelf. It’s one of those books that works just as well as a decorative piece as it does something to flip through. A nice reminder of the city and I’m very happy with it.

BEAUTIFUL COFFEE TABLE BOOK
We just received this book. It is a heavy, quality coffee table book. Amazing photographs vintage to new - high quality paper, spine, beautiful cover. This is truly a work of art - we love London and lived there on/off for many years. This book reminds us what an amazing city London is. A terrific, well priced gift for anyone who loves this city. I am going to purchase 2 more for friends who traveled to London for their first time this summer and vow to visit again. A GREAT book on this city!

A Pictorial Bargain.
This is a wonderful pictorial history of London. Photos from years back are so interesting to look at. An added bonus is that the photo descriptions are in three different languages. I first saw the book on display in Pottery Barn and thumbed through it but soon put it down when the clerk told me it was $79.99. Imagine my delight to find it so much more affordable on Amazon.

It's oversized format and compilation of interesting historical and cultural photos provides an amazing insight into London over the years, and is perfect for thumbing through or displaying as a beautiful coffee table book. This book is a great addition to anyone's library, especially if they have visited or lived in London. Large and heavy, it's a wonderfully laid out and curated book.
